  2. College Updates August/September College Tips: • Write drafts of Personal Statements • Sign up for SAT/ACT exams • Prepare for SAT/ACT • Research private college deadlines • Search for scholarships • Go to Belmont if you need adult school classes!

  3. College Updates Aug./Sept. Important Dates: • 9/6: SAT Registration Deadline (for 10/6 Exam) • Deadline for Film Competition (“Short and Strong,” $2000 Scholarship)

  4. College Updates • Private colleges have different deadlines - you need to research them (from October 2013 - April 2014). ACT vs. SAT - pick one • ACT Deadline for 9/21 test has passed :( • SAT free for 3 schools • ACT $10 per school (most of our students do well on this test) • Students need to know which schools they’re applying to

  5. College Updates Application Deadlines: • CSU: Oct. 1 - Nov. 30 • UC: Nov. 1 - Nov. 30 • $ Waivers for application available GPA Requirements: • CSU’s need 2.0 (3.0+ recommended) • UC’s need 3.0 (3.5+ recommended)

  6. College Updates Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Who? • Low-income • 1st generation college student What does it offer? • Money • Summer Bridge • College Counselor • Some flexibility with GPA requirements

College Updates Money for CA Colleges CalGrants • A - Tution/Fees: UC (up to $12,192), CSU ($5,472), Privates (up to $9,084), other Career Colleges (up to $4,000) • B - Living assistance/Tution/Fees: $1,473 • C - $547 for books, additional $2,462 You must complete the FAFSA (Jan. 1 - March 2) Check out scholarships in the meantime online!
