  2. Map Expectations Identify Groups SCHOOL PARENTS/ COMMUNITY TEACHERS & ICT PERSONNEL STUDENTS Key Question: Identify the groups to benefit from the ICT infusion Intervention What should each group expect from ICT Infusion? What do each of these groups expect from each other? What resources are required?

  3. Group’s Expectations-Students • Improved assessment scores • Increased student research skills with the use of technology • Promotion of time on task • Reduction in misbehaviour • Increased student motivation • More positive student learning outcomes • More constructive use of relaxation time

  4. Group’s Expectations-Teachers • More effective delivery of curriculum • Improved classroom management skills • Promotion of teamwork • Better presentation & storage of both Formative & Summative Assessment • Increased professional development • Greater sense of accomplishment

  5. Groups’ Expectations-Parents • Greater parental involvement in the learning process. • Strengthening the school-parent connectivity • Establishing the school as a community organization • Extending the reach of the school into the home through ICT

  7. What groups expect from each other • Support structures • Security • Communication • Respect • Acceptance/Tolerance • Resources • Access/Availability to each other & resources • Responsibility/Accountability • Collaborative decision-making

  8. Required Resources • Training for all stakeholders • Upgrade of physical infrastructure-outlets, setting of classroom, security • Hardware and software • Input of technical personnel • Reliable supplier e.g. of Internet, Software & Hardware • Administrative/MOE support • Time to plan and implement

  9. Resource Requirements

  10. What is the Relative Advantage? What is the Advantage of infusing the Technology? • Compatible with schools’ Vision and Mission statements and other cultural values and beliefs • Increases stakeholders’ familiarity with the technology that is available while simultaneously enhancing the formal use of these technologies • The skill base of all stakeholders will be improved Overall Objectives? • Students learn a variety of skills • Teachers use a variety of assessment methods e.g. rubrics and performance checklists • Training and practice in using new skills/techniques… • Engagement of students’ Multiple Intelligences which could accelerate their learning

  11. Objective of Infusion Students • Improved assessment scores • Increased student research skills w/use of technology • Promotion of time on task • Reduction of misbehaviour • Increase in student motivation Teachers • Increased professional development • Knowledge of how to plan, develop, implement and evaluate lessons using ICTs • Use of continuously updated and multiple strategies and tools to enhance teaching/learning

  12. Measurement Methods (1) School • Formative assessment (content learning) • Self-assessment (skills and processes) • Summative assessment/content, application of technology, final product) • Teacher observation • Assessment results • Improved classroom attendance • Greater student involvement (group presentations) Parents • Use of appropriate electronic resources • Frequency & competency using technology • Greater awareness of school policy and expectations Teachers • Use of appropriate electronic resources • Use of technology appropriately and effectively • Use of templates to guide students in their work • Frequency & competency using technology • Quality lessons • Variety of teaching strategies

  13. Measurement (2) School: Indices (Last Yr vs. Present Yr) • Physical improvements (technology) • Spill Over Effect (Pervasiveness) • Initial Challenges • Lessons Learnt

  14. Integration Strategies • TERM 2 • Focus on skills development-Wikis, Blogs, PowerPoint • Special attention to be paid to parents re development of IT skills • Use of reflective journals to develop stakeholders metacognitive skills • TERM 3 • Development of digital portfolios to exhibit growth and development of stakeholders’ skills and understanding. • Feedback process to gather useful data for future implementation plans and processes • Assessment and evaluation of the process-identification of problems and challenges and creation of innovative strategies to solve same • Implementation of reward system • TERM 1 • Identification of resource personnel from among stakeholders • Generate awareness of useful applications and sites that would complement the teaching/learning process • Ensure access to hardware and software so that knowledge could be gained esp. for development of Wiki What tools/techniques will you introduce based on your learning for each term? What is a good starting point for integration?

  15. Integration Strategies Term 1 Use expertise available on Staff (IT teachers, IT Technician and trained H.O.D’s, other Staff with great competencies-The ICT Team) Creation of a School Wiki so stakeholders could have an area to practice and hone their skills Seek guidance and input from Curriculum and Supervision re expectations of stakeholders and how they will be fulfilled Begin process of assisting stakeholders( esp. students and teachers) in becoming Internet savvy e.g. Safety on the Net, How to access and Search Websites, Use of Browsers, Validating information sources, Book-marking, copying, citing correctly…

  16. Integration Strategies Term 2 Focus on skills development-Update of the school’s Wiki. Incorporation/Infusion of technology at all levels (Departmental meetings, Management/Staff Meetings, Staff development meetings to change the dynamics of such meetings) Use technology as an administrative tool. Focus on skills development for parents-Introductory or basic computer literacy courses to develop hands-on skills and awareness Focus on skills development for teachers and students-Power Points and Blogs, using online interactive resources… Both stakeholder groups will be encouraged to develop digital reflective journals as a strategy to monitor the process and so judge the impact of the integration strategies

  17. Integration Strategies Term 3 Creation of Digital Portfolios by students and Teachers showing their growth and development over the course of the year ASK-to gather feedback and put a reward system in place for Departments/Teachers/Students/Parents as their gain competence and confidence and demonstrate productivity, creativity, involvement and innovativeness Use of Formative and Summative assessment strategies to determine success, identify problems and point the way forward

  18. Preparation of Instructional Environment STEP 1 -Creation of a Shared Vision among stakeholders re the value of infusing technology into the environment. Use of Staff Professional Development, PTA, LSB and Electives to get all stakeholders on board -Adherence to Internet use policy and maintenance of the safety of the users of the technology as well as the equipment -Ensure equality of access to hardware and software so all stakeholders can be trained -Preparation of physical infrastructure STEP 2 -Ensure that constant monitoring is done by HOD’s and Administrators to preserve adherence to MOE’s Curriculum requirements and standards as well as the ICT Policy -Utilize wisely the skills of IT Teachers and the IT Technician to ensure that the equipment is in working order and can be accessed by all stakeholders. -Ensure that training is ongoing, consistent and that feedback is sought to deal with challenges. STEP 3 -Continuous training and re-training of all stakeholders-mentoring by those who know, monitoring, modelling and coaching must be consistent so that the skills learnt would not be forgotten through lack of opportunities for practice. -Technical assistance provided must be effective and efficient
