  3. WHY USE LVDT’S? PRO”S • Relative low cost due to popularity • Solid and robust, wide environment use • No friction-long service life • High signal to noise ratio-low impedance • Negligible hysteresis • Short response time • Can be connected to be self protected if used outside range

  4. WHY USE LVDT’S? CON”S • Core must contact either directly or indirectly the measured surface-sometimes not desirable or possible-can be overcome with an air-gap pneumatic servo between core and measured surface. • Dynamic measurements are limited to no more than 1/10 of LVDT frequency resulting in a 2 kHz frequency cap.
