  3. LOCATION OF SCARBOROUGH IN TOBAGO Located on the south coast, close to the south western end of the island.

  4. About Scarborough • Scarborough has been the capitol of Tobago since 1769. • Population of Scarborough is 17,000. • Scarborough hold about 1/3 of Tobago’s population. • It is the largest town in Tobago.

Tourism in Scarborough • Scarborough, being the capital of Tobago, is a major site of Tourism in the country. • In this project we shall be dealing with established tourism destinations in Tobago. • Some Tourist Sites are: • Fort King George. • House of Assembly. • Tobago’s Historical Museum. • Port of Scarborough

  7. FORT KING GEORGE One of Scarborough’s established tourist destinations.

About Fort King George • Fort King George was built by the British for defence in the 1770’s. • Located on Mount St. George. • The Fort was named after the British King, King George III. • The building overlooks the sea, providing a picturesque view. • Its many historical buildings include an officer’s quarters, jailhouse, barracks and mess hall.

  10. Tobago House of Assembly A building around for ages.

About House of Assembly • Established in 1980. • It is the meeting place of the Tobago House of Representatives. • The building itself is “one of the Caribbean’s finest examples of Gregorian architecture,” as stated by many tourists and critiques alike. • It is a site of attraction for many tourists.

  13. Tobago’s Historical Museum Delve into the past with a variety of artifacts.

About Tobago’s Historical Museum • The Museum is located in the barrack guard house of Fort King George. • A variety of artifacts from different groups, including Amerindian artifacts, military relics, and document from the island’s colonial days. • Many tourists visit this site, as “where better to learn of Tobago’s past, than in their museum,” as said by a worldwide Tourism magazine.

Port of Scarborough • The port of Scarborough is where cruise ships come when they arrive at Tobago. • It is a natural tourist site, because on arrival, one sees Tobago landscape behind them, with the sea out in front, and large cruise ships lining the port. • Each year, thousands of visitors come to Tobago via cruise. • In 2000, 104,061 cruise arrivals, and in 2008, 95 cruise ships came to the island.
