  3. Holding the iron • Securely hold iron • Use fingers to move shell handle • Adjust as needed • Remember, there are several ways to hold the iron • Practice with a cold iron before placing on clients Cosmetology I - Curling Iron Style

  4. Testing the Temperature • Use an end paper • Place between barrel and shell • Clamp closed for several seconds • Study paper for scorch marks • If scorched, allow iron to cool before use on a client Cosmetology I - Curling Iron Style

  5. Curling the Hair • Heat hair with the iron • Slide iron gently up to ends • Secure ends between barrel and shell • Roll iron towards scalp Cosmetology I - Curling Iron Style

  6. Curling the Hair • Place comb between iron and scalp • Slide hair off iron • Secure with a double-prong clippie • Avoid fishhooks Cosmetology I - Curling Iron Style
