  3. Emergency Management The Emergency Management major focuses on disaster prevention, planning, preparedness, response,mitigation, and recovery. The curriculum designed to provide students with a global outlook, interpersonal skills, and emergency management knowledge . Emergency management is the discipline of dealing with and avoiding risks., It is a discipline that involves preparing for disaster before it occurs, Advance your career in the rapidly-growing field .

Departmental Mission Statement: • The mission of the Department of Technology is to provide a • nationally accredited program, which serves the technical, • managerial, and communication needs of persons desiring • to enter or advance professionally in an industrial technology • related career. The JSU Technology Program will: • Prepare our graduates to meet employer expectations for competent professional, and ethical practice. • Prepare our graduates to pursue advanced studies in the areas of technology or other fields. • Prepare our graduates to adopt and continuously practice life-long learning and continuing education

Emergency Management (Disaster Management) • The disaster life cycle describes the process through which emergency managers prepare for emergencies and disasters, respond to them when they occur, help people and institutions recover from them, mitigate their effects, reduce the risk of loss, and prevent disasters such as fires from occurring.

  8. Life Cycle of Disaster • Mitigation: includes any activities that prevents an emergency, reduces the chance of an emergency happening or lessens the damaging effects of unavoidable emergences. (MINIMIZING THE EFFECTS OF DISASTER)

  9. Life Cycle of Disaster • Preparedness: A variety of measures aimed at insuring the community is prepared to reacts to any hazard that threatens the country. (PLANNING HOW TO RESPOND)

  10. Life Cycle of Disaster • Response: It is action taken immediately before, during and just after a disaster or major emergency. The goal of the responder is to save lives, minimize property damage and enhance the beginning of recovery from the incident. (EFFORTS TO MINIMIZES THE HAZARDS CREATED BY A DISASTER)

Life Cycle of Disaster • Recovery: It is the activity that returns infrastructural systems to minimum operating standards and guides long term efforts designed to return life to normal or improved levels after a disaster. This is a very daunting phases of Emergency Management because it requires personal and community motivation. (RETURN THE COMMUNITY TO NORMAL)
