Monday May 12thJG #4 The creature is a gentle and empathetic being when he begins his lonely journey.  What events cause him to change his attitude?  What do these events say about humankind? • Objectives & what I take away : & what I take away: 1) review chapter 24 2) read and complete novel 3) discuss the novel with time remaining 4) read for meaning on own and record it • I can SSR (8 + 2) and record something meaningful from my reading • I can participate in completing the novel • I can try and stump Mr. Norton with my questions (5 minutes) • I can hand in my questions with answers to chapter 24 • I can remember to do a “take away”

Tuesday May 13thJG #5 Write about the conclusion from the next slide • Objectives & what I take away : 1) assess understanding of the novel 2) assess writing skills 3) practice developing an argument 4) practice using quotations to support and argument 5) practice explication of quotations • I can go over the conclusion from the next slide • I can write an effective and meaningful response to the timed essay test – I can do the prompt to the card I am/will be given • When done I can read silently and hand in my Frankenstein book to the library, and check out the book titled Night. • I can remember to do a meaningful take away.

  5. Conclusion Though Frankenstein was written almost 200 years ago, many of its themes are still applicable to today’s society. Some themes – man playing god, for instance – are even more pertinent to today’s world than to Mary Shelley’s. Mankind is growing more and more powerful in terms of scientific discovery, through its understanding and manipulation of biology and of DNA in particular. With great power comes opportunity for great corruption and turmoil. Frankenstein helps us understand that it is not, necessarily, bad people we have to fear– a greater danger might come from good people with good motives, like Victor, who are capable creating monsters. Are we destined to lose control over the monsters? For this reason, understanding the significance of Frankenstein is essential for today’s youth, to be aware of both the benefits and the consequences of science. List some ways that this applies:

Wednesday May 14thJG #6 respond to the journal prompt on the next slide: • Objectives: & what I take away: 1)independent reading and meaningful record 2) reading for meaning 3) reading for meaning and demonstrating thinking about reading through response to essay prompt 4) organizing thoughts and materials in an organized manner • I can SSR (8 + 2) and record something meaningful from my reading • I can type up my essay response from yesterday and place it on my website – due today! Lab 122 • I can print a copy of my essay and give it to Mr. Norton or “share” it. • I can return my Frankenstein book and check out Night • I can remember to do a “take away”

Thursday May 15th JG #7 What are some reasons why a person might be rejected by others? • Objectives: & what I take away: 1) complete collaborative work 2) demonstrate understanding of bigger concepts from Frankenstein 3) work collaboratively • I can work on completing the topic grid – due tomorrow, next project starts on Monday and is due Thursday…info tomorrow. • I can go to the lab – 240!

Friday May 16th JG #8 FWF • Objectives: & what I take away: 1) read on own and make record of meaningful reading 2) complete the topic grid and be ready to explain/present it 3) understand the information for the maslow project • I can SSR (8 + 2) and record something meaningful from my reading • I can work on the topic grid assignment – I can have it completed by today!!! No late ones will be accepted! Lab 502! • I can start work on Maslow if I am done – I can understand the directions from Mr. Norton and that it is due next week Thursday. • I can do a take away.
