  1. Subgrant Goals and Activities Frostburg State University

  2. What We Are Doing Currently

  3. Preparation for Completing Assessment V • Candidates use applications in classroom context through technology courses • Candidates see effective integration of technology modeled • Candidates have guidance and practice designing technology infused lessons

  4. Preparation for Completing Assessment V in3rd Technology Course • Review student technology standards • Review technology plans from various school systems • Review lessons with technology appropriately integrated into instruction • Appropriately integrate use of technology in ‘good’ lesson plans that do not contain use of technology • Reflect on and revise a “modeled” technology-rich lesson

  5. Preparation for Completing Assessment V in3rd Technology Course • Candidates design a treasure hunt appropriate for a specific lesson and post to web site • Candidates use an electronic gradebook • Candidates create an electronic portfolio template for their students

  6. Process for Assessing Candidate Performance for MTTS V • Performance for MTTS V is completed during Internship I (same semester as 3rd technology course) • Instructors and graduate assistants review lessons and videos from previous semester • Peer coaching groups are formed • Video review and discussion within each peer group is completed

  7. Process for Assessing Candidate Performance for MTTS V • Instructors in each peer group complete the assessment for the “teaching” portion of the performance task • Instructors read and assess candidate reflections using the performance rubric • Data analysis of assessment results is completed and submitted along with examples of candidate performances

  8. Goals and Strategies

  9. Needs Determined from Analyzing Current Process • Increased involvement of K-12 colleagues • Scaffolding of class and field activities leading up to candidates’ completion of assessment V • Models / exemplars for candidates to see and adapt • More detail in rubric • Formative assessment models • Practice in writing reflections • Method for collecting candidate performance task assessment data

  10. Goal 1: Developing Processes and Resources for Candidate Completion of MTTS V Strategies • Prepare candidates to complete assessment V (develop scaffolding) • Demonstrate methods for collecting and analyzing student data and applying the results to development of instruction • Develop process for candidate completion of MTTS V • Refine process and rubric for evaluation of candidates’ performance on MTTS V

  11. Goal 2: Analyze and Refine the Assessment of Instruction Strand in the Education Program Strategies • Analyze courses to determine how assessment strategies, assessment data collection , and use of data to inform instruction are sequenced throughout the education programs • Based on analysis of syllabi, address strategies that need to be developed

  12. Strategies and Activities

  13. Educators Involved in Activities • Tech Reps • Representatives from PDS sites, designated by school principals, paid through grant funds • Facilitate integration of technology for candidates and mentor teachers • Conduct end-of-school-year technology survey and identify areas of need related to technology • Intern Supervisors and Interns • Mentor Teachers • Performance Assessment V Coordinator • University Faculty

  14. Prepare Candidates toComplete MTTS V The following activities involve the Tech Reps and Assessment V Coordinator • Design lesson plan exemplars including scoring tools to assess student achievement • Videotape lesson exemplars being taught • Identify skills needed to teach these lessons • Design and present course activities using exemplars • Design and present activities to develop candidate skill in writing reflections • Design and present activities to develop candidate skill in designing assessment tools

  15. Demonstrate Methods for Collection, Analysis, and Use of Data The following activities involve Tech Reps and faculty • Work with consortium to develop state resources • Provide workshops to Tech Reps and faculty on resources and methods • Align courses to ensure candidates can use methods and resources

  16. Develop Process for Completion of MTTS V and Collection of Data The following activities involve faculty and Tech Reps • Arrange for demonstrations of TaskStream, LiveText, Chalk and Wire, etc. • Pilot the selected system with selected group of candidates • Based on results of pilot, revise and/or expand procedure

  17. Refine Process and Rubric for Evaluation of Candidate Performance on MTTS V The following activities involve Tech Reps, Assessment V Coordinator, supervisors, and mentor teachers • Refine part A of the assessment rubric • Refine procedure and group membership for peer review of lesson videos • Refine procedure for review of candidate written reflections • Provide training to Tech Reps, supervisors, and mentor teachers to assess candidate performance on MTTS V

  18. Analyze Courses for Development of Assessment Strategies and Implement Changes The following activities involve faculty • Develop plan for comprehensive assessment of instruction strand • Conduct analysis of syllabi • Identify assessment strategies that should be incorporated in courses • Come to consensus on incorporating these strategies • Develop and implement evaluation of candidate proficiency on use of assessment strategies
