  2. LSU INFORMATION • 4 year public – research • 28,000 total enrollment • 23,000 Undergraduates • 4,800 first year students • 1,039 out of state students-fall 09 • Texas-552, Georgia-84, Florida-80, Mississippi-49, Alabama-47, Tennessee-39, Arkansas-18

  3. FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE • Established in July 2008 • Created to increase retention from first to second year • 4 professional staff; 4 graduate assistants; 4 student workers • Support for students & faculty

  4. FYE MISSION & GOALS Mission – to facilitate a positive transition to LSU through programs and outreach to enhance student success inside and outside the classroom

  5. FYE MISSION & GOALS • Educate new students on academic and campus resources, as well as LSU traditions • Provide opportunities to network with faculty, staff, and other students • Promote multicultural and global awareness • Promote active participation in campus and Baton Rouge communities

  6. LEARNING OUTCOMES • Experience the spirit and traditions of LSU & louisiana • Establish relationships with peers, faculty, and staff • Identify opportunities to get connected and involved with LSU and the Baton Rouge community

  7. FALL PROGRAMMING • What’s the Big Deal About Jambalaya? • LSU v. Washington Tailgate • Regional Luncheon • Alligator Tour with History Channel

  8. WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL ABOUT JAMBALAYA? • Experience the culture of Louisiana • Learn about the traditions of LSU and Louisiana • Network with other out of state students

  10. SPRING PROGRAMMING • Basketball Cajun Style • Mardi Gras Mambo • Discover B-Town

  11. BASKETBALL CAJUN STYLE • Learn the basketball fight song and cheers • Network with other out of state students • Participate in an LSU tradition • Experience local Louisiana cuisine

  12. ASSESSMENT • Individual Program Surveys • Focus Groups – Fall semester • Student Voice – Spring semester
