  2. BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE: KNIGHTS ARMORS • T This helmet is called a sallet helmet because of the ridges on top.  These glancing ridges are made to strengthen the top of the helmet and to deflect or cause weapons to glance off the skull of the knight to avoid the full force of the blow. The front view of the helmet reveals breathing holes.  The holes that are narrower were turned toward the sound of arrows to prevent them from going through the larger breathing holes on the right side of the helmet. The chain mail is worn around the waist and around the neck and over the shoulders and head.  This gave flexible protection so th the knight could turn his head to the left and right and turn at his waist, lift his leg to get on his horse and even run in the armor.

They also sometimes carried purses, or wore a cap. Their shoes were colorful, and had a pointed, curled toe. Also, they would wear a combination of shirt, belt, pants/socks, and a cloak. Both genders wore surcoats, and metals such and gold, and silver, plus many gems such as pearls and others adorned all clothing worn by royalty. .

  5. QUEEN´S OUTFIT The queen's wardrobe was much more complex. Only queens and princesses were allowed to wear velvet, satin, or ermine. They were also the only people allowed to wear Expensive veils. Their gowns were usually made of silk. Their shoes consisted of silk or velvet, with leather coverlets for when they went outside. Their hairstyles changed through time. They wore high headdresses, long braids, buns, covered their hair, had it loose, and others throughout time. They wore tight lacings to make themselves thinner with better posture. Gowns and sleeves were long and trailing, usually made of silk. The skirts were decorated with complex embroidery. They even had makeup, consisting of white lead powder, which they put on their faces, and perfumes from the east.
