District Nursing Practice • Autonomous tradition • Invisible to manager • Workload/staff resource dependent on assessment/management skills of DN • Climate of change
Caseload Analysis An analysis of caseload variables across a group of caseloads using descriptive statistics to examine : - content validity of individual caseloads - benchmark caseload management across the group.
Historically • Used graphical data • Statistical Package for Social Sciences • Labour intensive • Required technical data management skills • Feedback to Nurses was limited
Disadvantages of SPSS Method • Feedback to Nurses was complex and slow • Manager needed well developed IT Skills • Not easily transported into a word document • Archive at local level for updating purposes • Manual Forms
eCAT Project • Commenced 2004 to September 2008 • Joint Project CPHVA & S&E Legacy Trust • £20,000 funding from CPHVA • Tested regionally across 4 Trusts • Evaluation by University of Ulster
eCAT Tool Purpose To assist caseload management practice for the caseload holder and effective and equitable resource allocation at team, local, and regional levels. Features • Direct input • Graphical reports on a range of caseload measures • Facility to cut and paste reports into a word document • Helpful hints alongside reports to assist with analysis • Provides a template for a Caseload Analysis Report
Advantages of eCAT • Use existing data • Correlate reports • Analyse results • Make changes • Evaluate the changes • New practice/technology emerges • Dynamic –tool adapted to meet requirements • Could be used by other Professional Disciplines
eCAT- Conceptual Solution to a Nursing Issue • Designed by Nurses • Tested by Nurses • Implemented by Nurses • Developed by Nurses • Led By Nurses
