    What is attraction?
  2. BYME’S LAW OF ATTRACTION We feel attracted to people who give you positive reinforcement Not attracted to people who give you negative reinforcement Learn to like people who are associated with positive events Dislike people associated with negative events or qualities
  3. COMPLIMENTARY NEEDS Attracted to someone who is our temperamental opposite (personality types) Attracted to someone who has characteristics we admire and would be like ourselves Can lead to trouble if we want the person to fill the missing parts instead of improving ourselves.
  4. PARENT IMAGE Attracted to those who are much like our parent: this could be age, disposition, career, etc. Someone who is like your mother or father
  5. EQUITY THEORY We fall in love with the person who offers us the fairest exchange Trade our positive and negatives in exchange for the other person’s positives and negatives. Based on the idea that we: seek pleasure and avoid pain are inherently selfish are happiest when we get what we think we deserve try to balance relationships
  6. HOMOGAMY THEORY Likes attract likes Likely to be attracted to people who you think are the most like you in these areas: Physical appearance Mental health Physical health Family background Family stability Popularity
  7. PROPINQUITY THEORY Tendency to choose someone who lives close to your home. Attracted to those who live within a reasonable distance
  8. ROLE COMPATIBILITY Someone who fills your expectations of what a partner should do or be
  9. THE LOVE TRIANGLE Love takes all three to weather the test of time: Romance Intellect Physical
