Urban Agriculture Project: Heavy Metal Concentrations in Homegrown Produce

This map and illustration show lead (gray) and cadmium (blue) concentrations measured in lettuce grown by participants in Ghent. Each point size indicates concentration levels. Only one lead exceedance is central. Not a single cadmium exceedance was observed. Distribution of lead concentrations among participants is analyzed based on washing and substrate type. Substantial decrease in lead concentration post-washing. Limited data on ground vs. raised bed cultivation. Presentation of As, Cd, Pb concentrations in first and second harvests, including unwashed lettuce, with linked codes to specific conditions.
