  1. Session 10: Consent or Coercion Answer Key

  2. We aren’t sure what is being referenced in saying “do you want to…. You know?”, so that question needs to be a bit more clear! Most of these statements were coercive, because they involve using information about the person, their previous relationships, or their current relationship to convince them to do something.

  3. Saying Mmmmmm? Is not enthusiastic consent, but it is unclear what the person wants, so checking in with the person is needed! Statements that express that the person does not want to do the activity “I don’t think I’m ready, I changed my mind” or statements that express doubt like “I guess, if you want to” do not express enthusiastic consent, and so these statements are NOT consent. Silence is also NOT consent.

  4. COERCION IS: • The act of persuading or convincing someone to do something by using force, threats, or emotional manipulation. • Coercion can look like: • verbal threats • telling lies • pressuring your partner • getting angry with your partner for not wanting to do different sexual activities • criticizing your partner for not wanting to do different sexual activities • making your partner feel guilty for saying no to different sexual activities • Coercion can sound like: • “if you love me, you’ll do this”
