The Talent Team Model

  • What are Talented Young People doing?

Racing!

  • When are they doing it?

All year round!!

  • What are the demands of the events?

“...dodgy, scary, random...”

Highly skilled

“...intense, changes of pace...”

Fast

We therefore need to develop highly skilled, fast, tactically aware, brave, hard-working bike riders

Planning and Prescribing Training

What does an ‘average’ week look like?
  • “Periodised weeks”

Based on the same principles we would apply to senior riders

  • Longer/Endurance rides
  • Roller sessions
  • Turbo sessions
  • Short Intense sessions with Race orientation
  • Skills sessions
  • Racing
slide12

Under 12’s

  • One or two club sessions per week
  • Plus another bike ride, if they want to (maybe with family or friends/when the weather is good)
  • A race most weeks
  • Riding the bike when they want to
slide13

Under 14’s

  • A couple of club sessions (if available)
  • A club run or group ride
  • A race or two every week (developing as they grow)
  • Second year starts to need to train – maybe for six months
  • (having a loop, getting on the turbo once or twice per week, getting out when they don’t always want to)
slide14

Under 16’s

  • 7 - 9 hour per week
  • 5 – 8 races per month
  • A mix of club sessions, group rides/club runs, solo training
  • loops, turbo and rollers
  • Volume in the school holidays
  • Second year would start to ride to races, etc
