  7. “George Caleb Bingham’s Uncivil Civil War” • 2011 Teacher Institute • Presented by the • Friends of the National Frontier Trails Museum • July 18-22, 2011 • $40 activity fee • 3 graduate credit hours available through UMKC at $75 per credit hour • Archeology in the Elementary Classroom • Workshop for Teachers • Presented by • Fort Osage National Historic Landmark • July 19-22, 2011 • $30 activity fee • Up to 2 graduate credit hours available through Lindenwood University at $60 per credit hour

Coming your way. . . • Independence and Blue Springs school districts are partnering in the development of a “Teaching American History” grant, a program that would provide professional development and teacher resources in American history for elementary teachers.   • We need your help! Teaching US History Survey

  10. Fluency is reading with speed, accuracy, and proper expression without conscious attention; performing multiple reading tasks at the same time. Vocabulary is recognizing the meaning and associations of words. Phonics is the connection between letters (as well as patterns) and the sounds they represent. Comprehension is understanding text while making connections. Phonemic awareness is the ability to hear and manipulate individual phonemes. .
