  1. THE THIRD Y3AR – Online

  2. Summary slide It’s all your fault. BLT-Leaks CSP & PH Rock, paper, scissors Seeing is believing The rest of the story The real wasteman A.S.A.P. ICA’s and SSCs Count Iphone4 Part B on steroids. Diagnosis: Murder? Abdo pain. Is that a p-wave? THE LIST. IQRA Can you handle the pressure? Home-alone. Heart surgery. Watch this space.

  3. IT’S ALL YOUR FAULT  • Remember, what follows is just advice. Feel free to take or leave anything we’ve said. Just bear in mind that at the end of the day, you and you alone are responsible for the decisions you make

  4. BLT-Leaks • Here’s the ‘good news’ - the school has “leaked” all the answers to your exams. Here’s the ‘not-so good news’, the answers are to be found in your lectures, your communication skills sessions, your handouts and anything else the school sends your way. Our advice would be to spend less time second guessing what may or may not come up in the exams and more time learning what they teach you! #TheTruthHurts

  5. Lectures • CSP & PH = HUH?. We ignored CSP & PH only for it turn up like an unwanted guest in our ICAs and in our exams (by which time we had learnt our lesson). Ignore them at your own peril. • Rock, paper and scissors. Don’t want to lose the “THIRD Y3AR” game? Don’t cut corners when it comes to revising. To do so is to let rock (aka exams) bash you into small pieces. Oh, and before you say anything, paper isn’t coming to help.

  6. Comm skillz and Practicalz • Seeing is believing. Let’s do a simple exercise. Try imagine what an EVAR looks like. Done? What did you picture? Chances are you don’t even know what EVAR stands for – a similar situation you’ll find yourself in if you don’t turn up to comm skillz & Practicalz. Experiencing the real thing gives you confidence. Trying to imagine the real thing removes it and replaces it with frustration.

  7. The Firm • The rest of the story. Think you know what medicine is? Well, third year will change that. • The real wasteman. You have two choices on firms. You can stand in the corner and dream about unicorns (ahem) or you can make the most of your time and learn things you’ll never forget for the rest of your life #dextrocardia #appendicectomy

  8. GP, ICAs, SSC • GP: EPC/MedSoc…but longer • ICAs: Rock, paper, scissors anyone? • SSC: Do it A.S.A.P. Unless you like having to type 2000 words the night before your ICA  (in which case, leave it to the last minute!) #WhatWouldIDoWithoutSarcasm

  9. IMTIHAAN (EXAMS) • Part I’m (A)lright: ICAs count towards your final grade. Just like in your second year. • Part I’m (B)ADDD: Do you have an Iphone4? (if you do, we hate you). Well for your THIRD Y3AR there are 4 resources to defeat this foe. (1) Cheese & Onion (2) Baby K&C (3) Lectures (4) Practice Questions (not just past papers!) • Part I’m (C)onfusing: Part B on steroids. Diagnosing patients with as few results as possible. Things aren’t as straight forward as they seem #Conn’s syndrome

  10. IMTIHAAN (EXAMS) CONT. • Part I’m (D)angerous:Abdo pain.Firms vs OSCEs. What does this ECG show? Is that a p-wave? Mastering the normal in abnormal conditions, first. THE LIST. • Part I’m (E)xciting. Not really. But they do count towards your final grade. Just like in previous years.

  11. IQRA (READ!) • Baby K&C • Cheese & Onion • Surgical talk • Essential Surgery (Reference. OTT at times) • Feathers EMQs (Books 1 – 3) • Oxford Clinical Assess & Progress (OTT at times) • Onexamination.com • PasTest.com • Pastpapers

  12. Reflections… • Can you handle the pressure? (hint: yes you can. We did, and you’re way smarter than us). • Home-alone. Remember what they say on airplanes? “Before you put a mask on others, put a mask on yourself”. Likewise, before you help others, help yourself. If you’re life is a mess, this year is a good opportunity to do some spring cleaning. • Heart surgery. Praying vs going to the theatres. Don’t compromise on your principles.

  13. Watch this space • We’ve got a lot more in store for you guys! So keep your eyes open!
