March Visit Deliverables • Check-in on progress toward development and implementation of actions recommended in the report by the consultants following their January 22-24, 2007, visit. • Recommendations in the form of Tri-O Dreamhouse models that provide customized, prioritized, to-do action items for enhancing direct mail, publications, and college involvement in recruitment effort. • Recommended housing communications plan for fall 2008. 2

  3. Visit Overview • ACS consultants Wayne Sigler and Christina Boettcher visited the University of Michigan-Flint on March 26-28, 2007. During this visit, the consultants: • Met with the Director of Admissions and related UM-Flint staff to check in on progress in implementing the recommendations for the UM-Flint freshman admissions program that were listed in the Consultant’s report following their January 22-24, 2007, visit. • Met with the Institutional Research Director, SEM Systems Analyst, and the Director of Admissions regarding admissions metrics. (Following the January 22-24, 2007, visit, the consultants forwarded a number of templates to facilitate the development of enrollment management dashboards at UM-Flint.) 3

Visit Overview, Continued • Met with the Institutional Research Director, SEM Systems Analyst, and the Director of Admissions regarding recruitment, direct mail targeting, and predictive modeling. Met with the: • Dean of the School of Education and Human Services • School of Education and Human Services leadership • Dean and Associate Dean of the College of Arts • Dean of the School of Health Professions and Studies and the Dean of the School of Management • The purpose of these meetings was to discuss how Office of Admissions could help these colleges achieve their enrollment goals and provide concrete ways UM-Flint can develop a coordinated, campus-wide undergraduate recruitment program. 4

Visit Overview, Continued • Provided the Vice Chancellor for Student Services and Enrollment Management with several preliminary updates on the findings from the visit. • Briefly discussed various enrollment management issues with the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. • Met with the Director of Admissions, the admissions communications staff, and Carrie Towns regarding the involvement of alumni in the recruitment effort. • Reviewed the current recruitment communications cycle and publications. Made specific recommendations to enhance this effort over the year-long development cycle. (Over time, this cycle should move to a two-year development cycle.) 5

Visit Overview, Continued • Reviewed the current status of the new Admissions web site and made specific recommendations to enhance this very important recruitment tool. • Made a presentation and led a discussion with the directors of the Student Services and Enrollment Management division on how to focus on and consistently achieve expected institutional outcomes. Gave the Vice Chancellor a handout from an AACRAO seminar on implementing the Tri-O Management Operating System the consultants led at the 2006 AACRAO national meeting. • Provided executive coaching to the Director of Admissions. 6

  7. Tri-O Dreamhouse Deliverables • The Tri-O dreamhouse deliverables, developed by the consultants following their March 26-28, 2007, are contained in a separate report. The following dreamhouses are included: direct mail, publications, college involvement in recruitment, and a housing communications plan. • The current activities are identified in black ink and the consultants’ recommendations for changes and additions are identified in blue ink. • The Tri-O Dreamhouse model is one of the tools in the nationally acclaimed Tri-O Management Operating System. It is a diagnostic/planning tool that will enable the admissions program to: • Visually communicate the activities and programs currently in place. • Plan and communicate where it plans to go in a realistic time frame. • Facilitate the budget planning process. 7

Recommendations for the Next 7 Steps • The consultants provided a specific, concrete list of the next 7 steps that UM-Flint should take to: • Develop a campus-wide, coordinated undergraduate enrollment program • Enhance its undergraduate enrollment vitality • A written report was given to the Vice Chancellor for Student Services and Enrollment Management 8
