  1. Genetics and breedingL.O. 1) Know the meaning of all the keys terms introduced today2) Be able to predict the outcome of simple crosses (matings) A D C B Question - What are A, B, C and D? Choose from Offspring, Female sex cell (gamete), Male sex cell (gamete) and Fertilised egg

  2. Match up 1. Stronger A. Homo- 2. Weaker B. Dominant 3. Same C. Hetero- 4. Different D. Recessive

  3. Predicting mating outcomes • Alice the cow is pure bred for brown hair . Brown hair is dominant. Her genotype is BB • Andrew the bull is pure bred for black hair. Black hair is recessive His genotype is bb What would be the outcome if Alice was mated with Andrew? B B b Bb Bb b Bb Bb • All offspring are Bb. This means they will have Brown hair. • QUESTION - What would happen if cattle that were both Bb were mated?

  4. Another example of predicting outcomes • Serena the sow was pink skin. This is recessive. What might her two genes be? PP, pp or Pp • Scott the boar has black skin. This is dominant. What might his genotype be? (There are two possibilities!) PP and Pp or pp and Pp TRY IT - Draw a punnet square for what would happen if Scott and Serena mated.
