  6. Report Card • Letter Grades: • Reading • English • Spelling • Math • Social Studies • Science • Writing only receives a marking indicator twice a year. No letter grade

  8. Ipads …. Will be used as an important resource and tool throughout the school day (we are trying to reinforce that this is not a gaming device - it is for school work!. Please help your student remember to charge it every night! Please help your student remember to return it to school the next day!

  9. TEXT BOOKS - You must use the TIger ID login portal to access the Math, Reading and Social Studies books HOWEVER, the reading book cannot be accessed using the IPAD. To access the reading book, you must use a laptop or desktop computer - something that allows “Flash”. Science Text book NOT available online this year!

  10. The Tiger ID user name is the child’s first intial and full last name. There may be a number after their name - the kids know by now!

  11. More about Reflex Math coming soon!!! These are the main resources you will use. Eventually we will use Google Classroom, but not for a while.

  16. Harcourt School Publishers Storytown 6 “Themes” (5 lessons per Theme) 30 “Lessons” Every 5th Lesson is a REVIEW of skills taught in the previous 4 lessons. Each lesson consists of: - 1 story or nonfiction text - 10 vocabulary words - A phonics/word analysis skill - A comprehension skill - A grammar lesson - One other “focus” skill

  17. Tests Each lesson will include…. 1 Vocabulary Quiz 1 Weekly Test 1 Spelling Test

  18. Vocabulary Quiz Words introduced and the list goes home on Day 1 of the lesson. Quiz is usually about 5 days later. Words are discussed and reviewed during the week in class, but should be studied at home. The quiz is usually a matching quiz along with questions about a selection of the words. The questions must be answered in a complete sentence . They must restate the question and use proper mechanics and spelling.

  19. Example: Explain a time you felt frustrated. Poor answer: when I kept doing belly flops Great answer: A time I felt frustrated was when I was learning how to dive, and I kept doing belly flops in the pool instead.

  20. Weekly Test Weekly Tests consist of: 10 multiple choice comprehension questions related to the story. An essay question related to the story (evidence will need to be cited). Multiple choice questions related to the comprehension, grammar, and focus skills taught that week. Lessons are generally taught over 5-6 days with the weekly test given on the 5th or 6th day. Students are required to use their books when taking the weekly reading tests in order to facilitate the citing of evidence used to support their answers. Every 5th lesson is a review lesson and no vocabulary quiz or weekly test will be given during these weeks.

Spelling Monday –Pretest** List goes home HW is to write missedwords from pretest 3X each due Tuesday Packet goes home/due Thursday Friday - Test ** If student scores 100% on pretest, a 100% goes in the grade book and student is exempt from Friday’s test. The student must still complete the packet.

  24. Book Reports First Semester and Second Semester oral report presented to the class - summarize the book/memorization encouraged - written component - creative component

  25. WIN “What I Need” Time • Tues. - Fri. 12:40 -1:15 This will be ELA enrichment or remediation time. Most of the students will receive enrichment during this period. A few kids who have been identified as needing extra help in certain areas such as fluency or comprehension will see the Reading Specialist or the MTSS specialist (Mult-Tiered System of Support) depending on their level of need. This will only end up being 1-5 kids per classroom. The majority of the kids will receive enrichment as well as other reading activities such as Study Island which is a web based program used to increase student achievement. Students are identified based on the AimsWeb Universal Screener which is an online test given 3 times per year. The first one was given during the first week of school. There is no ELAP this year since all students identified as needing enrichment will receive it during WIN time with their WIN teacher – ELAP has become obsolete!

MATH • Whole Number Operations • Ch. 1: Addition and Subtraction within 1,000 Will be split into 2 Tests - the addition test is 9/13 • Ch. 2: Represent and Interpret Data • Ch. 3: Understand Multiplication • Ch. 4: Multiplication Facts and Strategies • Ch. 5: Use Multiplication Facts • Ch. 6: Understand Division • Fractions • Ch. 8: Understand Fractions • Ch. 9: Compare Fractions • Measurement • Ch. 10: Time, Length, Liquid Volume, Mass, (and Money) • Ch. 11: Area and Perimeter • Geometry • Ch. 12: Two Dimensional Shapes • Ch. 7: Division Facts and Strategies This chapter is a little • repetitive of ch. 6 so the district has us do a couple of lessons and then push it to the end if we have time! – no test on Ch. 7

  27. We encourage you to explore the many online resources “GO Math!” has to offer! NO excuse for not doing HW - it’s all online! Miss Garrity has sent home a guide to help you print out the HW HOMEWORK

  28. “Mid-Chapter Quiz” – this page is found in the textbook – Use the page in the book as a “practice quiz”. The actual quiz given in class will be a copy of this same exact quiz!!!

  29. Here is the “practice test” found in the math textbook. The actual test will be very similar to the practice test but not exactly the same.

Don’t throw away the magzine if it comes home until AFTER the test!

Science Earth Science: Water, Weather, Rocks/Minerals, Earthquakes/ Volcanoes Physical Science: Properties of Matter, Changes in Matter Force/Motion, Simple Machines, Energy Space: Planets, Star Patterns, Sun, Moon, Earth Movements Students are encouraged to use their books to complete class work.

  33. Science/Social Studies STUDY GUIDES - passed out about a week before each test - also available online. - Use “Quizlet” for practice! There is a link for Quizlet on my web page for science and vocabulary practice. There are various matching and other games to play!

  34. Standardized Testing2019- 2020 Iowa Test of Basic Skills Reading & Math January 13 - 17 PSSA ELAApril 20 - 24 Math April 27 - May 1 May 4 – May 8 (this week will likely be Science PSSA for 4th grade and make up tests.

  35. Educational Trip Assignments will be given to the best of the teacher’s ability. Due to schedule/curricular changes additional make-up work may be required. Days missed = days to complete Please fill out a form for approval (available online or in the office).

Class Dojo • Will be used to share pictures of our schoolwork and activities. • To share reminders • For positive behavior rewards that kids can redeem for special prizes. • Parents have the ability to “message” me through the app BUT please use email as the main form of communication with me! Little comments or friendly messages are fine on the app, but if it is important, the quickest way for me to respond is email!
