  3. WHY THE NEED FOR A BOUNDARY REVIEW? There are 2 main reasons for reviewing the boundaries: • Some of the elementary feeder school boundaries have changed so these changes need to be considered as it relates to the secondary school boundaries and elementary feeder schools; • St. Joseph’s is currently under utilized (there are empty classrooms); The Boundary Review Objectives guide the discussion in the review process

  4. BOUNDARY REVIEW OBJECTIVES IN THE BOUNDARY REVIEW PROCESS, IT IS NECESSARY TO ENSURE THAT CONSIDERATION BE GIVEN TO THE OVERALL OBJECTIVES • Establish new boundaries as a result of capacity concerns in an existing area; • Ensure best overall balance as it relates to school & site capacity and enrolment, including an understanding of the impacts of development in the area and, in the case of secondary boundary reviews, also in response and consideration to elementary feeder school relationships; • Ensure that any impacts on transportation are acceptable by maximizing walking areas and minimizing additional transportation.

  5. THE PROCESS AND YOUR PARTICIPATION • The boundary review process is outlined on the next slide. • In addition to attending the Open House(s) and providing comments, it is important to make yourself aware of the timeframes related to: • meetings to provide input and consider decisions; • proposed implementation of any boundary changes.

  6. BOUNDARY REVIEW PROCESS • Boundary Reviews are initiated by Planning Staff in consultation with Area Superintendent. • Boundary Review Committee’s (BRC’s) are established to provide school community input and initiate consultation. • Planning provides background on the existing situation based on enrolments, municipal development, community associations, etc. • The Boundary Review Committee (BRC) will confirm boundary proposals based on the objectives of the boundary review process and then initiate consultation with school communities. • The BRC will reconvene to determine the final recommendation(s) for presentation to the Board on Boundary Scenarios. • The Board of Trustees will consider the recommendations and make the decision on changes to school boundaries. • The boundary review process provides for the opportunity to consult with the affected school communities and receive input on the proposed boundaries.
