  2. Rationale • Information needed to • interpret measurement results • assess differences between socio-economic groups • study differences between self-reported and measured (e.g. height and weight, high blood pressure, elevated blood cholesterol)

  4. EHIS development • Several guidelines available and under development (Task Forces) • Work ongoing to evaluate the questionnaire and comparability between countries • New questionnaire for next wave of EHIS

  5. Selection of EHES questions • A few items added • Some items under consideration*

  6. Personal and household characteristics • Gender, date of birth • Household members • Legal marital status • Living with a spouse or partner • Level of education • Years in full-time study • Labour status • Employment status*

  7. European Health Status Module • Self perceived health • Longstanding illness or health problem – been limited in activities • List of diseases or conditions* • related to EHES core measurements • CVD, Diabetes

  8. European Health Care Module • Medication • Medicines for • High blood pressure • Lowering the blood cholesterol level • Diabetes

  9. European Health Determinants Module • Height and weight • Smoking • Exposure to tobacco smoke* • Instruments under development: physical activities, drinking alcohol, diet/consumption of fruits and vegetables

  10. European Background Variables Module • Household income • Any other information needed? • Sources of income

  11. Additional questions needed • Question to verify fasting time • When did you have your lastest meal or snack? • Question on acute infections • Needed to interpret blood analysis • Questions for the interviewer to evaluate the interview • Use of proxy • Presence of additional persons

  13. Recording form for measurements • See EHES manual for each measurement • Measurement results, clothing, position of the subject, devices, measurer id, exclusion criteria, refusal • Recording of calibration and checking of devices
