  3. Diploma Requirements • 30 credits • 18 compulsory credits • 12 optional credits • 40 hours of Community Involvement • Successful Completion of the Literacy Test

  4. The 18 Compulsory Courses • 4 English • 1 French • 3 Math • 2 Science • 1 Canadian Geography • 1 Physical & Health Education • 1 Civics/Career Studies • 1 Canadian History • 1 Arts (drama, music, visual art, dance) And……..

  5. Group 1 • 1 additional credit in English, or French as a second language,** or a Native language, or a classical or an international language, or social sciences and the humanities, or Canadian and world studies, or guidance and career education, or cooperative education • Group 2 • 1 additional credit in health and physical education, or the arts, or business studies, or French as a second language,or cooperative education • Group 3 • 1 additional credit in science (Grade 11 or 12), or technological education, or French as a second language, or computer studies, or cooperative education

  6. Grade 12 Compulsory Credits You MUST sign up for the following compulsory courses: • English • Any other missing compulsory credits

  7. Advance Placement Courses • Grade 12 AP courses are university preparation courses • Heart Lake offers advanced placement courses in English (ENG 4U9) and Calculus and Vectors (MCV 4U9) • At the end of the semester, you can write the AP exam – depending on your mark, you can earn university credits

  8. What is your pathway after High school? • Apprenticeship • College • University • Workplace • Visit our Student Service link on Heart Lake’s website and look at the Grade 11 and 12 power point presentations to help you make informed choices

  9. Apprenticeships and Workplace • Consider doing a 2 or 4 credit Co-Op • OYAP is a great option • Dual credit program- earn High school and College credits • Please visit your guidance counsellor for further information

College Admissions • OSSD • Specific required Grade 12 courses depending on the program chosen (usually ENG4C and perhaps MAP4C or MCT4C) • Usually ‘C’ level courses, but some programs may require Grade 12 ‘U’ or ‘M’ • Visit the college website for program specific requirements: www.ontariocolleges.ca

  11. University Admissions • 6 Grade 12 “U” or “M” One of these 6 will always be ENG4U • Most university programs have specific course requirements These courses are included in your “best 6 average” • Visit the university website for program specific requirements: www.electronicinfo.ca

  17. High School Planner - Overview This is where you see course requirements for graduation. This is where you see your post-secondary opportunities across Canada based on your course selection . This is where you view other graduation requirements and your progress.

  18. Plan Your Courses This is where you can: plan your courses for multiple grades and build your graduation and post-secondary plan in advance. submit your plan for the upcoming school year You will see: completed courses and marks compulsory courses

  19. Adding a Course Add a course to your plan by clicking on ‘+ Course’. Explore the subject specific courses available at your school. Select courses to meet your program, diploma, and post-secondary requirements.

  20. Click on a subject folder to review courses available. Click on a course to read course prerequisites and description. Click ‘Add Course to Plan’ in the bottom right corner. Note: You can use the Grade dropdown or search filters to find a course. Adding A Course 1 2 3

  21. How to delete a course you have chosen Hover your cursor over the course box (do not click) and a red ‘X’ will appear. Then click the ‘X’ to remove the course. Add a course to your plan by clicking on ‘+ Course’. 2 1

  22. Error Message: Missing Prerequisite!! You will see the error message shown if you select a course for which you do not have the prerequisite. Please review your course prerequisites. Please do not select a course if you do not have the prerequisite.

  23. Submitting Your Courses A plan that meets all graduation requirements will result in the checkmark shown. Submit your plan by clicking ‘Submit’ Note: Only your next year grade courses will be submitted even if multiple years have been planned. 2 1

  24. Submitting Your Courses Submit your courses by clicking ‘Confirm and Print’. A pop-up window may appear, click ‘OK’ to finalize the submission of your plan. 1 2

  25. Stop! Review your courses. Once you hit the submit button- you cannot make changes.

  26. Verification Report Please print the Course Verification Form. Have your Parent/ Guardian sign the form and return the form to your homeroom teacher. Keep another for your records. 1 2

  27. Deadline for Course Selection • Course selection website opens Tuesday Feb. 11, 2014. • At this time you can go online. • Select your courses. • Print out your Verification and get it signed by a parent/guardian. • Return the printed verification to your homeroom teacher. • Course selection website will close Tuesday, February 18th

  28. FINAL TIPS • Select courses online by February 18th, 2014 • Be realistic • Research • Ask questions! • Print off your verification form, hand one into your homeroom teacher and keep one for your records
