  1. Tools offered: • MODIS Subsetting and Visualization tool • Spatial Data Access Tool (SDAT) • WebGIS

  2. Satellite data is great! but …….. Users (Field researchers) have some inconveniences : • Volume • Accessibility • Data format • Processing time

  3. What ORNL-DAAC offers? User community requested that we prepare MODIS Land Products in an easy-to-use format and size • To validate remote sensing products • To characterize field sites • Get remote sensing data for species observation • Bird observation (AKN) • Teaching tool

  4. To facilitate user need we offer: MODIS Subsets for field sites: • Subsets of MODIS land products for over 1000 selected sites • Visualizations for the MODIS land product subsets (Time Series and Grid plots) MODIS subsets for any location on the globe: • Create and Visualize MODIS land product subsets for any land location MODIS Web Service: • Create MODIS subsets programmatically using a SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) Web service

  5. 1147 field sites for MODIS Collection 5 280 field sites for MODIS Collection 4 MODIS Subsets for field sites Data Formats Offered • ASCII – 7x7 km subsets • GeoTIFF – 25x25 km subsets Products are: 8-day, 16-day or annual composite periods 1 km, 500 m or 250 m resolution Documentation about subsets and links to detailed documentation of the MODIS products are provided

  6. MODIS ASCII 7x7sq.km subsets Demo: http://daac.ornl.gov/modisfixedsite Key Features: • Data is available for 21 MODIS land products • Subsets are available for the entire period of MODIS record (2000-Present) • Provides direct input into excel or a text editor • Visualization tools can filter data by QC flags • Small File size

  7. MODIS GeoTIFF 25x25 sq.km subsets Demo: http://daac.ornl.gov/modisfixedsite Key Features: • Data is available for 18 MODIS land products • Subsets are available for the entire period of MODIS record (2000-Present) • Provides direct import into a GIS system • Data is in Native projection (Sinusoidal Projection) • Filter any pixel value based on a criteria • Open GIS WMS compliant

  8. MODIS Subsets for any location on land Demo: http://daac.ornl.gov/modisglobal What we offer: • MODIS land product subsets of any size (Maximum: 201x201 sq.km) • MODIS land product subsets for any time scale within the period of record for a product • Subsets are in ASCII and GeoTIFF format How it works: • User can input the coordinates for the site or select from a picklist of sites • User chooses the areal extent and the time period • Processing of subsetted product (selection of tiles, mosaicing, generating time series data file and graphs) takes 10 to 60 minutes for most products (depends on area, time period, and product) • The tool will send an email message containing a URL where the output can be accessed

  9. Sample Order: http://daac.ornl.gov/glb_viz_2/16Nov2009_09:13:53_281229136L44.08758502824516L-110.3466796875S81L81_MOD13Q1/index.html

  10. MODIS Web Service Demo: http://daac.ornl.gov/modiswebservice Key Features: • Programmatically obtain subsets • Connects with scientific workflows • Extract data for many spatial/temporal locations
