  3. How can you help? Position Description Coach If you have not coached Soccer before don't fear CSL has an excellent Coaching coordinator who will be helping all coaches.  Team Manager Very important volunteer that will help out with team organization.  Especially important (required) at the Advanced and Select level of play. Field Maintenance CSL maintains the fields with City assistance.  Unfortunately the City mowing schedule is not always frequent enough due to any number of reasons (bad weather, grass growing fast) so CSL maintains the fields at the proper height.  You will notice that our players will always play on mowed fields and that is because of our volunteers. Concession Stand Each team will receive a concession stand duty schedule.  The schedule will be based on your team's play dates and times.   Board Members The league will not run without our Board member volunteers.  Be a part of the driving force behind the CSL and join the board.  As with any organization, more than Soccer skills are required to run the league.  Staff Members   The league will not run without our Staff volunteers.  Become part of the operations at CSL by joining the Staff.  Be a Coordinator, Picture Scheduler, Facilitator Coordinator, Referee Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, Fundraising Coordinator, etc. The possibilities are as endless as your talents.

  4. DID YOU KNOW?Some Interesting STATS about CSL Teams Churchland Soccer League is primarily an all volunteer organization. This means that none of our Board members or the majority of those people working within CSL are paid for their position or the excellent work they do by giving of their time to work with CSL. At the Travel level we have some very highly qualified coaches who have chosen CSL as their “home”. We are proud to offer some of the most competitive developmental level of play for our Select/Travel players thanks to these individuals. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication on the part of everyone involved to make this level of play at CSL the success it is. Thank you to the Board, Coaches, Asst’s, Managers, Players and Parents for your commitment

  11. What is the Advanced Soccer Program? The advanced soccer program was created as an alternative for players who want to remain in recreational soccer but play at a higher level of competition.  CSL advanced teams compete in the Tidewater Advanced Soccer League (TASL) and play other advanced teams from soccer programs in the local area and play on average seven Saturday games and compete in one tournament at season's end.  Advanced soccer provides a player a good first competitive challenge and provides the player the opportunity to develop his/her soccer skills.  Advanced soccer can serve as a stepping-stone for players to achieve the skills and understanding of the game necessary to play at the travel/select level.

  16. CSL boasted 14 Travel teams for the 2010-2011 seasonal “year” and have MANY teams who will be participating in VYSA State Cup. This is the largest # of teams we have ever had. The majority of our teams have been placed in the highest bracket possible which means they are playing at the PREMIER level.

  17. CSL is proud of all of our players that tried out for the Olympic Development Program (ODP) and District Training Program (Pre-ODP).  The following players currently or formerly associated with CSL were selected to attend ODP Training sessions for the Eastern District and some of them have gone on to the State level and further

  18. Players: Emily Leverone, Mikah Hosang, Aaron Speziale, Chandler Copeland, Christian Coulson, Mehegan Morgan, J. Thomas Morgan, Keona Salsgiver, Teddy Townsley, David Harpen, Stephanie Stubbs, Kyle Beckett, Zach Morgan, Torri Herbert, Danny Lambert, Jacob Macintyre, Joel Brown, Brandon Bolt, Alex Cady, Tucker Firnstahl, Anthony Knight, Phillip Harpen,Brianna Nagle, Cullen Schaubach, Hunter Pernell, Preston Firnstahl, James Ellis, Bailey VanSkyhawk, Dara VanSkyhawk, Emily Kester, Matt Kester

  19. Making the ODP pool is something of which to be proud.  These ladies and gentlemen had to try out amongst the best of the best from all over the district, competing with players from Virginia Beach, Suffolk, Norfolk, Hampton, Newport News, Williamsburg, Gloucester, and beyond.  They put forth lots of effort in the tryouts and must go through rigorous training  and then play to qualify for the State and Regional levels.  To learn more about the program go to the VYSA Website and click on the ODP menu option up top or the District Academy menu option on the left.  We at Churchland are VERY PROUD of our ODP participants!  Way to Go!!

  20. Years of this continued hard work and dedication have resulted in reaching amazing success in the Soccer Community. Over the years we can boast: Ed Townsley’s Girls team traveled to Portsmouth, England to participate in Soccer Friendlies in our sister city. The u14 boys Travel team finished as Finalist in the VYSA (VA) State Cup Championship by beating many State Level teams during the competition. The CSL Fury Girls team attended several College Showcase Tournaments. They also have several players who were actively recruited by Colleges with several playing soccer in college, including 1 at NC Wesleyan. Former CSL player, Teddy Townsley, attends University of Maryland and is the punter for the football team! Former CSL player, Jay Coble, plays soccer for Va Wesleyan College! Many of our Coaches are former players themselves, some of them with bragging rights to having played in College and internationally. Many of whom also carry NSCAA licenses. Many of our players have returned to Coach at CSL and many of them are still currently coaching here.

  21. Select/Advanced CoachesALWAYS plan ahead! Reminder: That coaches wishing to coach for Advanced and Travel teams for the Fall 2011-Spring 2012 season must fill out the coaching application available on the CSL website under the handouts tab. Applications should be mailed to the CSL P.O. Box c/o Travel Commissioner not later than March 10, 2011. The Tryout Committee will review all applications received by that date.

Capital Improvements Our fee structure has certainly changed over the years and we have positive changes coming this calendar year for you our members. - Immediate plans include a kickback wall to work on controlling rebounding and improve first touch. -Building expansion to include a family restroom, and league administration facility.
