  3. Me • BA Communications • Masters in Elementary Education • Professional Certificate • I have a wonderful husband, a thirteen year old boy, twin 10 year old girls, two dogs and two cats.

  4. My Philosophy and Goals • High Expectations for ALL! • Students will be respectful, thoughtful, accepting, and considerate to others and self. • Students will develop attitude of self-confidence, critical thinking skills, independent thinking and desire to become a lifelong learner.

Classroom Responsibilities andExpectations • Personal Responsibility!! • Follow all school and playground expectations. • ALWAYS do best work. • Be kind to each other • Focus on doing the right thing, even if no one is watching. • Everything that we do is based on the school rule: “We make choices that don’t cause a problem for others.”

  18. Second Grade Conferences and Report Cards • Conferences will be taking place on December 3rd and 4th. • Report cards are aligned with the district and state curriculum standards. They reflect the standards using the following ratings: • 4 Exceptional. Stretches and goes beyond. • 3 Meets standards (of a hard working student) • 2 Approaches standards • 1 Performs below standards

  19. Second Grade Testing • Fountas and Pinnell Reading Assessment • Stanford Achievement Test ~ in spring

  20. Our Daily Schedule 10:40-10:50 - Morning Recess 12:00-12: 15 - Lunch Recess 12:15-12:35pm - Lunch 2:05-2:20pm – Afternoon Recess 3:40/1:30 ~School dismissed M T Th F/Wed.

  21. Homework • With the exception of daily Everyday Math, comes home weekly. • Weekly homework is due each Friday by 9:30am (turned in by the student!). Must be turned in to attend structured Choice Time on Friday. • Students get two homework excuse pass for the year. • Includes reading and reading comprehension log, lasting no more than 20 minutes. • All assignments support skills taught in class.

  22. Volunteers • Tue 9:35-10:30am: Literacy • Thu 9:35-10:30am: Literacy • Fri 9:35-10:35am: Math stations/Math help. Volunteers start in October.

  24. PE curriculum • Music grants for ukuleles • Teaching station for the stage. • Mackinvia for all Newcastle students. • Replaced VHS tapes for DVDs to support curriculum inb library. • VOICE mentoring • GLAD training
