Active Voice Subject The subjectperforms the action expressed in the verb. Steve played the guitar. Steve is doing the action. He is playing the guitar.
Passive Voice Subject The subject is acted upon by the verb. The guitar was played by Steve. In this sentence the guitar is the subject BUT the guitar isn’t doing anything.
