SJ • YESTERDAY: The thumb of the Y-hand shape starts at the chin and moves back along the cheek • NOON: One arm is horizontal while the opposite arm is held vertical with the elbow resting on the fingertips of the horizontal arm. • MIDNIGHT:One hand is held horizontal while the opposite hand hangs from the elbow downward. • ALL-DAY: Both hands with the Open-flat hand shape, the elbow of one rests on the fingertips of the other. The top arm makes an arcing motion and comes to rest on the other elbow so that both arms are on top of each other in front of the chest. • ALL-NIGHT: Holding the left arm in a horizontal position with the palm down. Make a downward sweeping motion from right to left with the right hand.

EVERY-DAY: same the sign for tomorrow, but it repeats • MINUTE: The index finger starts held upward and makes a forward twisting motion on the palm of the opposite hand • HOUR: The index finger makes one complete circle on the palm of the hand. • WILL, WILL-BE: The open hand moves in a forward motion from the side of the head • FUTURE: The open hand moves in a forward, circular motion

  3. AGO, PAST: The open hand waves back over the shoulder in a single motion • USED-TO, BEFORE: The left hand remains stationary with palm facing out. The right hand pulls back with the palm facing the body. • LONG-AGO: Both hands wave back over the shoulder repeatedly • RECENTLY: The X-hand moves in a backward motion on the side of the chin • DURING, WHILE: Both hands move forward with index fingers extended.

  4. AFTER: Both flat hands with palms facing the body. The outside hand moves forward while hand closest to the body stays in place. • NOT-YET: The open 5-hand is waved in a backwards motion along the side of the body with the palm facing back. • IF: The I-hand shape moves out from the side of the forehead. • ABOUT, APPROXIMATELY: The open 5-hand makes a circular motion over an area in front of the signer. • FIND: Starting with an OPEN 5 hand palm down, the thumb and index finger come together as the hand is lifted up.
