  3. INTRODUCTION This is currently my 6th year of teaching Math and Science at Greenacres Middle School. I have also taught an exploratory class for the last 3 years. Being able to see kids learn by experimenting in labs and teaching kids is an amazing job. I love being able to bring in real world problems for students to investigate and solve within the community and world. I’ve had a great time incorporating technology into the current curriculum this year and I have some great ideas for next year already. Welcome to my portfolio. I was born and raised in Colville, Wa. and grew up in the great outdoors. Along with my obvious passion of teaching I also have worked for the past 11 years as a commercial fisherman in Bristol Bay, Alaska for sockeye salmon. My wife is also a teacher and we have two kids Collin who is 4 and Lizzie who is 2. Click here for my Conceptual Framework Reflection Statement Click Here for Table of Contents

  6. Self Assessment Reflection As a teacher, I have come away with so many ideas and thoughts about my classroom and assessments from this class. Students learn in so many different ways it is important that you get to know your students and incorporate different types of lessons and assessments throughout your year. Every year we get a whole new bunch of students who are unlike the last class that we just had. We truly have a melting pot of kids that bring such diversity to our school that we need to look at each classroom individually and truly assess students throughout the year in a variety of ways . This allows us to correctly modify our lessons for students and have them reach their fullest potential. Our current curriculum assessments are not adequate and lack a variety of assessments to give us the big picture on each students learning. Therefore I know that the knowledge that I have gained through this class and from my peers will help me in making more valid assessments in the years to come. My goal of assessment is to challenge my students in my classroom to meet and exceed the standards and give them the tools necessary to do so. I want to provide a variety of lessons designed based on the assessments that I have made according to their learning style and needs. Assessments before have been somewhat scary to me. A lot of paperwork, organization and tracking is sometime very overwhelming. This class has made assessment clearer and has given me the tools to apply different types of assessment in my classroom that will be valid to my students. Click Here for Table of Contents

  7. In the future, I plan on integrating technology where ever I can. I look forward to collaborating with my co-workers and sharing what I have learned throughout this course and in my other classes. Our 6th grade team is always working on ideas of assessment and I know that I will have a lot of ideas to offer to our Thursday collaborations. My goal is to help teachers in my building who are uncomfortable with technology to find valid ways to incorporate technology into their classrooms. I also would like to team up with other teachers through the district collaboration site so that I can join a even more vast network of valuable technology based lessons and ideas for my classroom. I’m also excited and looking forward to using survey monkey and other assessment tool strategies in my classroom. I think it is important to involve students more in assessing their own learning in the classroom. Next year, we will be adopting a new Math curriculum that has a variety of assessments using computers. I am looking forward to learning the new curriculum this summer and implementing it in my room. Finally, I want to finish my masters and look into taking additional classes that are going to be offered this summer in technology. Future Goals Click Here for Table of Contents
