Testing • EXPLORE test in mid to late October. • This test is the first in a series of ACT prepared exams to determine readiness for the next level. • EXPLORE > PLAN > ACT • High school uses as a guide in registering students. • Information includes career suggestions, areas to focus for growth, and suggestions to prepare for high school.
TESTING • State Writing Assessment in early February • Last state writing was taken in the 5th grade • Writing is on line. • Students are expected to read two text passages and write using a detailed prompt.

Changes to advanced classes • CCSS: Common Core State Standards • Content will be much deeper. • The required standards are becoming more rigorous. • The testing is changing: • CRA: Constructed Response Assessment • Math testing that requires the students to provide more than just the correct answer.
Science • No Physical Science • Offer Advanced 8th grade Science
Math • Adding Advanced 8th grade Math
Qualifications for advanced • Data driven decision • Work ethic • Very good to excellent attendance • Proficient to advanced TCAP scores • Strong, consistent grades • Math only: Learning Link assessment • Proficient to advanced scores
Learning links • Assessment program • Data district-wide indicates direct correlation to TCAP achievement • Currently only used for 7th grade math in middle school
Algebra I • Student will receive high school credit • Elective • Grade is part of the GPA • No student can be moved out after December • Student will take mid-term, final exam, EOC • State End-of-Course exam • Must pass to graduate
Academies • Clarksville High: Business and Finance • Kenwood High: STEM • Northwest High: Health Science • Rossview High: Media Arts and Technology • West Creek High: Criminal Justice and Homeland Security • MCHS: Plant and Animal Systems
What is it? • A small learning community that is focused on a career theme. • Any 8th grade student can apply for any academy. • All academies accept application based on interest in the career except STEM. • STEM academy uses an academic criteria as well for selection. • Each academy has a goal of 75 students. • The hope is to have 50 students zoned for that school with • 25 students coming from other zoned schools.
