  2. Purpose & Goals • Collect trip generation data for Health/Fitness Clubs • Determine trip generation rates, modal distributions, and diverted link percentages • Compile data for submittal to Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Trip Generation Manual.

  3. Background • Current ITE data is outdated and based on a small sample size • Studies conducted in 1977 in California, and 1986 and 1997 in Pennsylvania • Does not distinguish between urban and suburban locations

  4. Scope & Methodology • Conducted surveys of all patrons entering the establishment during hours of interest. • Mode • Diverted links • Pass-by rate • 2 urban and 2 suburban locations • Non-holiday weekday and weekend • Peak hours • 7:00 – 9:00 AM • 5:00 – 7:00 PM
