  7. Results 2-year colleges get a break An Assembly committee moves to take some sting out of proposed cuts. By Alexa H. Bluth -- Sacramento Bee Capitol BureauPublished 2:15 a.m. PST Tuesday, March 4, 2005 A legislative budget panel moved Monday to make up for a fiscal hit that California's community colleges fear they will take on top of state budget cuts. School officials got more bad news last week when they learned they would be short an additional $38 million because of sagging property tax revenues. They warned the cut would mean fewer classes and further delay of needed campus repairs. The Assembly's budget committee agreed to reduce midyear cuts to community colleges by up to $38 million to make up for the loss. The committee approved the change as part of a package of midyear budget cuts that has been winding its way through the Legislature.
