  2. Narrative and Anecdote Paragraphs • Must have a topic sentence. • The topic sentence must tell you what the story will be about (subject). An excellent topic sentence will also explain how that story connects to/proves the thesis (claim). • Work to prove the topic sentence through detailed examples. • Tell a story step-by-step. • Are different from a summary in that they give a detailed account of an event that spanned a small amount of time. • Should be analyzed when the story is done/at the end of the paragraph in order to show how the story proves your topic sentence.

  3. Writing • Take two minutes to brianstorm a list of stories that you could tell about your subject in order to prove your thesis. • Choose one story and freewrite for five minutes about what happened and why it was important. • When you go home, review your freewrite to see if any of the ideas you wrote about could be useful as a topic sentence or as part of the body of the paragraph.
