  1. Forces Acting on the Aircraft Karim Hafez Khan Academy Knowledge Video SYST 560 - 9/30/13

  2. Forces • Forces acting on Aircraft (Level Flight) • Lift • Weight • Thrust • Drag

  3. Forces (Level Flight)

  4. Lift • The upward force generated mainly by the wings that keeps the aircraft in flight.

  5. Weight (Gravity) • Force due to gravity cause by the weight the of the aircraft and all of its components • This downward force caused by the weight directly opposes lift

  6. Thrust • The main driving force of the aircraft caused by the engines and its propellers • This force is directly opposed by drag

  7. Drag • The opposite rearward force that is induced by the forward force of thrust • Parasite Drag – Drag caused by parts of the aircraft that don’t contribute to lift (i.e. fuselage) • Included Drag- Drag caused by parts of the aircraft that produce lift (i.e. wings)

  8. Forces (Level Flight)
