  3. Ukraine • Ukraine is larger than France and Great Britain but considerably smaller than Russia. • 5% of Ukraine’s territory is mountainous; the rest part of the Ukrainian area is flat. • Ukraine has the Carpathians and the Crimean Mountains. • The Carpathians is the natural mountainous boundary of Ukraine. • They are covered with mixed forests of pine, fir, beech and oak trees. • There are the thickest forests in Volyn, which are part of the famous Byelovezhskaya Puscha.

  4. Ukraine • The Dnieper is the main river of the country; moreover, it’s the third longest river in Europe. Such rivers as the Dniester, the Danube, the Southern Bug and the Seversky Donets are also important.

  5. Ukraine The population of our country is about 46 million people. Besides Ukrainians the representatives of many other nationalities live there: Russians, Jews, Belarusians, Moldavians, Romanians, Greeks, Tatars, Poles, Armenians, Germans, Gypsies and other ethnic minorities. They contributed to Ukraine’s culture and history.

  6. Ukraine • The biggest cities of Ukraine are Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhya, Donetsk, Odessa, Mykolaiv and others.

  7. Zaporizhya • One may also go to Zaporizhya, to the island of Khortytsia, where the Ukrainian Cossacks’ organization was born. • The most remarkable sight, the pride and adornment of the city is Khortytsia Island. The Dnieper River cruise ships make it one of their scheduled stops in order to visit Khortytsia Island. • Zaporizhya is an important industrial center of Ukraine, particularly a home for the hydroelectric power plant known as "DnieproGES," the ZAZ, the country's main car manufacturing company, and the Motor-Sich design-bureau and production company, the world-famous aircraft engine manufacturer.

  8. Ukraine “Заповіт” Т.Г. “MY TESTAMENT” Shevchenko When I die, let me be buried In my beloved Ukraine, My tomb upon a grave-mound high, Amid the wide-spread plain, That the fields, the steppe unbounded, The Dnieper’s plunging shore My eye could see, my ear could hear The mighty river roar, When from Ukraine the Dnieper bears Into the deep blue sea The blood of foes… then will I leave These hills and fertile fields – I’ll leave them all behind and fly To the abode of God To sing His praise… But till that day – I nothing know of God. On bury me, then rise ye up And break your heavy chains And water with the tyrants’ blood The freedom you have gained. And in the great new family, The family of the free, With softly-spoken kindly word Remember also me. переклав Джон Вір

  10. Ukraine • Kyiv is the capital of Ukraine and one of the oldest cities in the Eastern Europe. It has already celebrated its 1500th anniversary. That’s why it is not surprising that a lot of interesting monuments are situated there, for example, the well-known to all Slavonic world St Sophia’s Cathedral and Kyivo-Pecherska Lavra. It is breathtaking to wander along the streets of the old town, to feel the breath of history...But Ukrainian places of interest are situated not only in Kyiv.
