2. Presentation GoalsFor priority and focus schools: • Discuss funding needs for priority and focus schools • Examine federal, state, and local funds • Investigate other available resources

3. Funding Requirements for Priority Schools • Refer to Virginia’s approved ESEA flexibility request, Section 2.D, on priority schools (beginning on page 61 and description of required interventions beginning on page 63) at the following link: http://www.doe.virginia.gov/federal_programs/esea/va_esea_flexibility_application.pdf

4. What will be the source of funding for priority schools? • Current Tier I or Tier II SIG schools • 1003 (g) school improvement funds • Newly identified priority schools • 1003 (a) school improvement funds Note: It is not anticipated that additional funding will be needed. If necessary, additional funds can come from the allowable “up to 20 percent” set aside of the Title I, Part A, allocation, or other local or state funds.

5. What will be the mechanism for obtaining funds to support priority schools? • Current Tier I or Tier II SIG school • Have already submitted continuation applications for the 1003(g) funds • Due June 1, 2012 to the Office of School Improvement • Newly identified priority schools • Once new schools are identified as priority, they will receive communication from the Office of School Improvement on the procedures and application to apply.

Funding Requirements for Focus Schools • Refer to Virginia’s approved ESEA flexibility request, Section 2.E, on focus schools (beginning on page 75 with a description of required interventions beginning on page 77) at the following link: http://www.doe.virginia.gov/federal_programs/esea/va_esea_flexibility_application.pdf

7. What will be the source of funding for focus schools? • Identified as a focus school and presently a Tier III school receiving 1003(g) school improvement funds • Use the remaining FY 09 1003(g) funds previously awarded and up to 20 percent of the division’s allowable Title I set aside, or other funds if needed • Newly identified focus schools • Use up to 20 percent of the division allowable Title I set aside or other funds

8. What will be the mechanism for obtaining funds to support focus schools? • Current Tier III SIG schools and identified as a focus school • Submitted continuation applications for the 1003(g) funds • Due July 9, 2012 to Office of School Improvement • If additional funding is needed, apply for those funds through the Title I, Part A, ESEA application or use other funds.

9. What will be the mechanism for obtaining funds to support focus schools? • Newly identified focus schools • Apply for funds through the Title I, Part A, ESEA funding application for the “up to 20 percent” division allowable Title I set aside or use other funds Note: If the 20 percent set aside is not sufficient, contact Dr. Kathleen Smith, director, Office of School Improvement, at Kathleen.Smith@doe.virginia.govor (804) 786-5819.
