  6. Students expressed dissatisfaction with non-academic experiences • Students were not connected to the City of Memphis • City of Memphis was seen as a problem, not an asset

  8. 3 Step Process: CBU

  9. Step 1: COLLECT

  10. Step 2: BUILD • Undergraduate enrollment: 1,684 • Percent of Undergraduate enrollment by gender: Men: 48.7% • Women: 51.3% • By race/ethnicity: • American Indian or Alaskan Native: 0.4% • Asian: 5.5% • Black or African American: 30.0 • Hispanic/Latino: 7.1% • White: 40.1% • Two or more races: 2.8% • Race/ethnicity unknown: 9.9% • Non-resident alien: 4.3% • (Enrollment data Fall 2016) • First-year residency: 57.8% • Assess which programs would meet the needs of our campus culture and student population.

  11. Step 3: UNIFY • Helped connect Student Activities Council to the mission to unfold Friday Night & Saturday programming and gave them an opportunity to partner alongside myself.

  12. CBU Talent Show • Invited the whole campus to participate • Had a various group and individual performances illustrated throughout the program from singing, dancing, poetry reading, rhythmic gaming, and even wrestling. • Students asked if we were going to do this program again 

  13. International Food Festival • 7 Different Countries Represented • International Students were invited to participate • Gave students opportunity to engage students with their culture and celebrate where they came from • So many students asked if this was going to be showcased again next year 

  14. Grizz 5k • Tickets to the Memphis Grizzlies Game • Entry fee to the race • Personalized shirt • Donation to the Grizzlies Foundation • Continuing Partnership with the Memphis Grizzlies • Exposed to 60 other companies around the City of Memphis • Exposed to various demographics of Memphis

  15. Salsa & Ballroom Dancing • Dance instructor from Blue Suede Ballroom was invited to teach Salsa & Ballroom Dancing. • Attracted a Large portion of Hola CBU students. • La michoacana popsicles were distributed to all students

  16. Film Showings:Black Panther, Wonder, 10 Things I Hate About You, & Avengers

  18. We Want To Hear From You! • How does your campus provide outlets for on campus and off campus programming? • What programs have you experienced to be successful and why? • What ways do you assess your programming to ensure that it meets the needs of your students?

  19. Hope for Future • Create goals & Outcomes for each Friday Night & Saturday program. • Create exit surveys for each program to measure how well the program met the needs of the students who participated.
