Topics • Reportable disease list update • HAN/alerts for ICPs • REDCap • Flu update • Hepatitis A update
Reportable Disease List Rules and Regs update- still in process, will send out alert when final
Reportable Disease List Conditions newly made mandatorily reportable nationally: • Carbapenem-resistantEnterobacteriaciae (CRE): These rare but highly drug-resistant infections are emerging nationally as an important clinical problem. They are highly fatal and often reflect major deviations in recommended antibiotic prescribing and thus are a focus of intensive infection containment and quality improvement efforts.
Reportable Disease List Conditions newly defined nationally: Candida Auris (Candida haemulonii): • This non-albicansCandida species emerged internationally in the last 12 months and has been found to be resistant to all anti-fungal medicines. Infections are often fatal and risk factors are poorly defined. Identifying the organism is challenging and it is routinely mis-identified as C. haemulonii, so we propose to add both rare organisms to the list.
Reportable Disease List Conditions newly proposed to be added at the state level: • Bacillus cereus as well as Bacillus species that cannot be ruled out as B. anthracis or B. cereus bvanthracis, and Yersinia enterocolitica: Both B. cereus and Y. enterocoliticaare rarely diagnosed, but are thought to be an important cause of preventable foodborne disease outbreaks. If an Arkansan tests positive for these infections via a lab test, we would want to know of it.
Reportable Disease List Conditions proposed to be removed from the state’s reportable disease list: Non-fatal and non-hospitalized influenza infection- We still intend to require that all influenza hospitalizations and deaths be reported as before.
Reportable Disease List Conditions added to improve detection of potential terrorist events/radiation misadministration: • Suspected unintentional radiation exposure • Clinical radiation adverse event
Reportable Disease List Updates regarding isolates or specimens that must be submitted to the ADH public health laboratory: • Bacillus cereus bvanthracisor Bacillus species that cannot be ruled out as B. anthracisor B. cereus bvanthracis, • Candida Auris (Candida haemulonii),
Reportable Disease List Updates regarding isolates or specimens that must be submitted to the ADH public health laboratory: • Vibrio Cholera, V. parahaemoliticus, V. vulnificus, • Brucellosis, • Melioidosis (Burkholderiapseudomallei), • Glanders (Burkholderia mallei)
Reportable Disease List Clarifications: • All outbreaks of diseases on the list (or other emerging diseases not specifically mentioned on the list) should be reported immediately (within 4 hours) via phone to the ADH • All unusually drug resistant infections should be reported within 24 hours to the ADH
Arkansas Health Alert Network (HAN) Sign up today for alerts and information: https://www.healthy.arkansas.gov/programs-services/topics/arkansas-health-alert-network-han OR https://hanregistration.adh.arkansas.gov/Security/SignIn.aspx • Alerts sent out to ICP’s as needed
REDCap • Report communicable diseases and upload documents without having to fax them in: REDCaplink –http://j.mp/2pwiUli
Current Influenza Activity • Arkansas is reporting “Sporadic” activity for geographic distribution and “Minimal 1/10” for intensity. ~baseline • Looks like it will be an Influenza A H1N1 dominant season, things may change (flu is unpredictable). • Last year we had an A H3N2 season. • Had 2 influenza related deaths in AR already • Outpatients and emergency ILI visits are at baseline
Influenza Reporting to ADH • Report influenza cases that are hospitalized, all influenza deaths (all ages), and any unusual clusters or concerns. • Encourage your facility to continue to report flu testing on all patients if this can be done without a significant time burden on your staff • Currently in the process of changing the Rules and Regulations for reporting to no longer require individual reporting of routine, non-hospitalized cases
Influenza Reporting to ADH • Influenza Surveillance Web Reporting is Now Available to Replace the Fax Reporting • The direct link to the website is https://flureport.adh.arkansas.gov/. • You can also use the main ADH page http://www.healthy.arkansas.gov/ • using the A-Z index, look for “Seasonal Flu” and then “Flu Reporting” link is on the left menu. • Or click Diseases & Conditions, Influenza (Flu).
