  2. This award honors Benjamin Y. H. Liu for his leadership in the aerosol community and his own seminal contributions to aerosol science through instrumentation and experimental research. The Benjamin Y. H. Liu Award“recognizes outstanding contributions to aerosol instrumentation and experimental techniques that have significantly advanced the science and technology of aerosols”.

  3. 2012 Recipient of the Benjamin Y. H. Liu Award • Da-Ren Chen • Washington University in St. Louis • Nominated by Prof. David Y.H. Pui • PhD, University of Minnesota, 1997 • Professor and Director of Graduate Study, Department of Energy, Environmental and Chemical Engineering, Washington University in St. Louis • Author of over 90 refereed papers and holder of 17 patents • Co-developer of the nano-DMA and known for his “effort in developing nanoparticle instrumentation and finding new applications” • With his NASA collaborator, Dr. Paul Greenberg, received the 2009 R&D Magazine 100 Award for environmental sensors • “a very talented researcher, ..who has implemented many novel ideas in the area of instrumentation” • “a unique capability to recognize the importance and opportunities of new technologies”
