  3. 2007 Nursing Program Directors met in Honolulu to address jurisdictional and regional nursing educational needs • Provide higher quality healthcare for complex health demands • Recognize commonalities and differences • Communicate among nursing educators • Collaborate across schools/jurisdictions • Prepare students for pipeline • Increase nursing competencies

Initial Goal and Objectives To increase professional nursing capacity through faculty development Objectives • Enhance instructional skills of current faculty • Develop new faculty instructors who are competent in clinical and didactic teachers • Increase numbers of baccalaureate, masters and doctorally prepared nurses

Initial Outputs and Outcomes • Instructional and preceptor skills enhanced through annual teaching and learning institutes • A model using expert clinical nurses to expand faculty capacity developed • Educational advancements of nursing faculty • Master level (3 faculty) • PhD level (2 faculty) • New strategies for resource sharing • Nurses at the table and on the map of policy makers

Current PIN Grant • Address nursing workforce issues in Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) report • Build synergies among local, regional and external partners • Improve education and practice infrastructure throughout the USAPI • Prepare for a distance-based regional BSN program in the USAPI • Develop regional strategic plan for nursing education in the USAPI
