To Katherine Paterson
My cousin died at the age of 11 from cancer six years ago. He was my best friend, hero, and companion. We were close cousins, and I always thought that we would be together. This left me devastated for months, but after a while, it was not mentioned by anyone; it was too painful. I kept all of my feelings concealed as if I caught a firefly, put it in a jar, and never let it fly. Six years later, my feelings were still as raw and painful as the night I got the call. Our teacher explained what the book Bridge of Terabithia was about. I knew it would bring back many sad, depressing, and awful memories, but I had to be strong. We started reading your book that day.

Dear Beverly Cleary,
I think its a really neat book because I think its a whole lot of fun to read. It has a real nice and colorful cover that really appeals to me. Runaway Ralph is all about a little mouse and his motorcycle that runaway together.

A letter to Jane Austen
Elizabeth was magnetic, because she reminds me of myself in many ways. Both she and I take pride in ourselves and our actions, and we are not afraid to stand up for what we believe. Like Elizabeth, I am a people watcher, and I am able to observe and interpret the way those around me are feeling. I have also learned, as Elizabeth did, that I need to be more careful about my first reactions. Sometimes I am too quick to judge others and, like Elizabeth, I have been wrong. I too have had to change my opinion about someone after getting to know his or her true self or unique circumstance.
14. Tip #4
Leave the reader something to think about

Ms. Austen, I have to be honest. Although I loved your story and gained new perspective, I must say, I am glad to live in the year two thousand. As I read about life for young women two hundred years ago I found myself grateful over and over again for the opportunities I have compared to the Bennet sisters. I can not imagine a world where my value is based on family status, my handwriting, or how well I could draw. Frankly, I would be a loser. Your book has put into perspective how lucky I am to be a girl of the twenty first century. I can study any subject I want, play any sport I choose, and be anything I dream of. Thank you for a great journey to the past, and now hope for the future.
