  2. 2011-2012District Highlights Beginning in spring 2012, the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) will replace the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS). The STAAR program at grades 3-8 will assess the same subjects and grades that are currently assessed on TAKS. At high school, however, grade-specific assessments will be replaced with 12 end-of-course (EOC) assessments: Algebra I, geometry, Algebra II, biology, chemistry, physics, English I, English II, English III, world geography, world history and U.S. history. STAAR test replacing TAKS in spring

  3. 2011-2012District Highlights CHHS receives award from Texas ACT Council GCISD’s focus on preparing students for higher education was recently recognized as Colleyville Heritage High Schoolwas awarded the “2011 College Readiness Award” from the Texas ACT Council. CHHS received the award because of its increase in the number of students taking the ACT over the last five years. According to ACT Southwest Regional Manager Karen L. Pennel, this award is only given to ten percent of all high schools in Texas.

  4. 2011-2012District Highlights Teams from Colleyville Middle, Grapevine Middle and Bransford Elementary all put forth outstanding performances in the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association Competition, capturing top honors at both the student and team levels. Two CMS students, Lan Luo and Tony Liu tied for first in the math competition by earning perfect scores on the math test. The event, which was held at Grapevine Middle, brought in competitors from all over the state and tested their knowledge in mathematics, calculator, number sense and science.   5. 2011-2012District Highlights 2011-2012District Highlights Cannon Elementary student chosen for short story collection Ruby Moore, a fifth grader from Cannon Elementary, was notified recently that her short story, Come Home Dasher, was chosen as one of the entries in the READ3Zero short story anthology, I Write. Students from all over the state submitted stories to be included in the anthology and only 39 students from grades third through eighty were selected as contributing authors.

  6. 2011-2012District Highlights Dr. Mary Arthur, Language Arts coordinator for GCISD, was honored recently at Texas Woman’s University as a winner of theBillie J. Askew Reading Recovery and Literacy Institute’s Advocate for Excellence in Literacy award. This award is given out annually to school district administrators who have consistently contributed to the success of Reading Recovery and/or Descubriendo la Lectura and other areas of literacy in their schools.   7. 2011-2012District Highlights Christina Middlebrook, a science teacher at Colleyville Heritage High School, was recently named a Fellow of theNational Science Teacher’s Association. As a Fellow, she will travel to the state Conference for the Advancement of Science Teaching to help instruct science teachers on strategies and practices for their classrooms. She will also mentor five teachers through an online community and aid them with their teaching strategies throughout the year. Colleyville Heritage teacher awarded fellowship

  8. 2011-2012District Highlights Winter Break Approaching Winter Break will be observed Dec. 19 – 30. Students return school on Monday, January 2. Spring semester will begin on Wednesday, January 18th. Friday, Dec. 16 will be an Early Release Day for elementary school students (Grades K-5). Dismissal time will be 11:45 a.m. .
