  2. Elements • Elements are substances that are made up of only one kind of atom. • E.g. Hydrogen (H2) • You can find elements on the periodic table! Only one kind of atom

  3. Compounds • Compounds are substances made up of two or more kinds of atoms. • E.g. Water (H2O) • Compounds can be separated by chemical reactions into elements. Water is made up of two kinds of atoms (hydrogen and oxygen).

  4. Examples of Usefulness • We will be able to know what we are touching, eating, breathing, etc… • We can make chemicals like tooth paste, salt, water by doing chemical reactions. • You will have a better understanding of the world and what it’s made up of.

  5. More Examples • Chlorine can be used for Paper products. • Manganese is used in steel alloys to increase many favorable characteristics such as strength, hardness, and durability. In fact steel can not be produced without manganese.  • Manganese us also used to color class and amethyst color.
