HISTORY • The earliest forms of bowling can be dated back to Ancient Egypt and the Roman Empire about 2,000 years ago. • The game entailed tossing stone objects as close as possible to other stone objects. • Originally the game used nine pins and involved lots of gambling and was banned. • An outdoor game for most of its history, indoor bowling became popular in the mid-nineteenth century after the introduction of indoor lanes in New York in 1840. • Using 10 pins took the place of the illegal nine pin game that involved gambling and was banned.

HOW TO PLAY • Bowling is an individual sport, one can play on their own or against others • Play begins with a person throwing “bowling” the ball down a lane • The game consists of ten frames, the bowler has two chances to knock down the pins in each frame • When keeping score, bonus points are awarded; the next 2 balls (for a strike) or 1 ball (for a spare) • If the bowler knocks down all pins in the 10th frame with one roll (strike), bowler gets 2 more rolls • If the bowler knocks down all pins in the 10th frame with two rolls (spare), bowler gets 1 more roll • A perfect game is 12 strikes maximum score 300 points • The player with the highest score after 10 frames is the winner.

HOW TO PLAY MODIFIED GAME RULES • Using the bowling carpet as the bowling lane • Line up cones along the side of the carpet • A student rolls or pushes the ball off the ramp • The distance that the ball rolls on the carpet without rolling off is carpet measured • The student who rolls the ball farthest on the carpet wins • If student is able those that use a ramp to bowl can be required to line the ramp up independently

BOWLING SAFETY • Wear comfortable clothes and shoes while bowling • Use a ball that is the proper weight: you can control when throwing and fingers fit comfortably • Stay behind the foul line when rolling your ball • Bowlers should keep hands clear of return ball return until all balls have come to a complete stop Ball return
