Victorian architecture . during the reign of Queen Victoria of England, 1937-190. Had a mix of different architectural styles. Features of Victorian style: Bay windows Sash windows. 3- Trims: -Dentils -gingerbread decoration . 4-steep Gable Roofs . 5- Turrets . 6-Verandas.

  8. Victorian architecture was hugely criticized for its poor design and the mix of styles, heavy furnishing and decoration.

  9. Arts and Crafts Movement • Reformed during the Victorian era • Against the mass produced furniture and the poor taste and choices of the Victorian style • Manufactured pieces: poor in design and quality

Characteristics of Arts &Crafts Movement Furniture • Truth to materials Preserving and emphasizing the natural qualities of the materials • Simple , straight line forms and lack of unnecessary ornaments There was no extravagant or superfluous decoration and the actual construction of the object was often exposed. • Natural motifs Nature was an important source of Arts and Crafts motifs. The patterns used were inspired by the flora and fauna of the British countryside
