  1. CLIC MODULE Preparation for the duty cycles Written by: Elena Daskalaki Checked by: Alexander Samochkine Approved by: GermanaRiddone

  2. Preparation steps Preparation phase Duty cycles start: 17/02/2014 • Power measurements • Air speed measurements • FEA simulator • Alignment measurements in transients • Nominal operation mode • Failure modes • Transients

  3. Power measurements Scope: Verify the power given by the software • DBQ • PETS • SAS • Compact Loads

  4. Air speed measurement • Scope • Measure actual air speed on the module surface • Observe the uniformity of air speed along the module as well as between the DB and MB • Provide these values as input to the module FEA simulator Fans

  5. Air speed measurement • The room air speed tuned to the nominal CLIC value of 0.7 m/s • Measurement of air speed along the module at 5 points on the MB and DB. • Measurement of air speed on grid of points covering the whole room 1 2 3 4 5

  6. Air speed measurement • The air speed is uniform between the DB and MB. • The air speed decreases along the structure. This fact is expected taking into account the position of the fans.

  7. FEA simulator Finalization of simulator based on heat transfer theory Tuning of the simulator based on CLIC nominal values Two simulations are currently running • Air speed: 0.2 m/s • Room temperature: 20 and 40 oC • Power in components: • DBQ 150 W • PETS unit 220 W • RFN loads 178 W • SAS 820 W • SAS loads 178 W

  8. Alignment measurements in transients Steady-state: Full set of alignment measurements using all fiducials Transients: Measurement of selected fiducialsevery 1 oC Main Beam Drive Beam • SAS-1 complete • SAS-x extremes (beginning and end) • One PETS complete • One DBQ complete *Photos: M.
