  2. What is Bentley OnSite? • Bentley OnSite is a software product that connects the “last mile” between the design office and the construction site. • There are two main goals: • Ensure correct constructionin accordance with plans andspecifications. • Document true as-builtconditions, particularly whereconstruction differs from design.

  3. Project design and construction • The goal of any construction project is to reshape the world to suit a desired objective. • Intelligent design is essential for a project to be effective, in order to achieve the intended goal while balancing other constraints (such as budget, schedule, environment, etc.) • But… intelligent design alone does not guarantee effective construction!

  4. The last mile • The end result of a design tends to be an assortment of paper documents and electronic files in a variety of formats, each intended to communicate a portion of the design intent. • We throw away design intelligence at the point at which it has the most value! Survey PreliminaryDesign FinalDesign Construct

  5. The last mile is painful! • What happens when design intelligence is lost? • Reverse engineering is required, which is both tedious and error-prone • Paper records are cumbersome and unreliable (as they quickly become out-of-date) • The risk of making an error skyrockets! • Mistakes need to be corrected • Rework is expensive, and schedules slip

  6. Connecting the last mile • Bentley OnSite allows you to connect your design intelligence in the field, for improving: • Stakeout • Inspection • As-built status anddocumentation

  7. Bentley OnSite for stakeout • Bentley OnSite Stakeout brings a wealth of design content into the field for stakeout. • Eliminate reverse engineering • Automatically generate stake points and field-based calculations

  8. Bentley OnSite for inspection • Bentley OnSite Inspector conveys information from the office to the field, and back again. • All field books, specs, drawings, forms, and tables available electronically • Graphical construction status (overlaid on design) • Automatic as-built documents

  9. Workflow management • Bentley OnSite Administrator manages the project, from privileges and preferences to incoming and outgoing data. • Security and projectadministration • Design data and field database management • Customizablereporting

  10. Built-in flexibility • Reports and forms can be automatically generated from the comprehensivehistory of stakeout and inspectionactivities, or can be customizedfor limitless variation. • Any combination of data fromdesign and field activity • By personnel, date, status, pay item, etc.

  11. Integration with Bentley design • The use of Bentley design tools (InRoads, GEOPAK, or MX product families) is not required, but does multiply the advantages. • Inheritance of quantities information • Direct support for roadway models and DTMs, making it possible to identify design elevation at any X/Y location in the field • Other metadata, too – drainage information, alignment data (station equations, gap / overlap, etc.)

  12. Bottom line benefits • Less risk. Less time. Less cost.Higher quality! • Eliminate reverse-engineering • Access the right field information directly • Reduce rework • Keep accurate digital inspection status at all times • Deliver comprehensive as-built documentation
