  3. Dermis • 2 Layers • Papillary Layer • Most superficial • Loose connective tissue • Reticular Layer • Dense, Irregular collegenous connective tissue

  4. Also in Papillary Layer… • Meissner’s Corpuscles • Sense Light

  5. Hypodermis • Contains: • Fibroblasts • Make collagen and elastin • Pacinian corpuscles • Sense deep touch

  6. Epidermal Derivatives • Hair follicles • Encased by invagination of epidermis • Own blood and nerve supplies • ACT

  7. Sebaceous Glands • Secrete sebum • Moisturizes and waterproofs hair • Near the arrectorpili muscle

  8. Eccrine Sweat Glands • Most of skin • Tube from epidermis into hypodermis • Tube made of myoepithelial cells • Nerves can make these contract to expulse sweat

  9. Apocrine Sweat Glands • Larger and produce a thicker secretion • Occur in axilla, the areola of the nipple, the labia majora, and the circumanal region

  10. Mammary Glands • In both sexes, but only developed in females • Produce milk for offspring
