  2. We are very excited about working with your children this year. Daily Schedule • 8:10 – 8:40 Homeroom • 8:40 - 9:25 Science/Social Studies • 9:25 – 10:55 Reading • 10:55 - 11:18 Math • 11:18 – 11:48 Lunch • 11:48 – 12:40 Math • 12:40 – 1:10 Recess • 1:10 – 1:55 IE - Instructional Extension • 1:55 – 2:30 Writing • 2:30 – 3:15 Specials/Encore • 3:15 – 3:30Pack Up • 3:30-4:10 Dismissal

  4. Science/Social Studies • These subjects alternate. We will complete one full unit then go to the other subject. • Encourage exploration and inquiry. • Help your child research.

  5. Writing Goals • Capitalization and punctuation • Introductions and conclusions • Provide three or more supporting details • Sentences with definitions • Compound sentences

  6. Math • Add/subtract fluently with numbers 1-20 • Add/subtract 3 digit numbers with regrouping • Tell time • Identifying & counting coins • Measurement: inches, feet, yards, centimeters, & meters • Geometric concepts • Multiplication

  7. IE: Instructional Extension • Flexible grouping - based on assessments • Students change classes • Reading/math support

  8. ELA/Reading . • WPM: words per minute 90 by the end of the year • Lexile: 500-650 • lexile.com: website to check book levels. Read with your child every night for at least 10-15 minutes. Ask questions and have discussions about the content.

  9. Homework • Reading - 10-15 minutes per night of free reading • Math - practice fluency 5-10 minutes per night • Spelling words (We are not sure if our new reading series does spelling yet.) Let your child’s teacher know if homework becomes a problem. It should not last more than 30 minutes.

  10. Behavior Management • 3 P’s - Prepared, Polite, Positive • Hoot Loot/House points • Class Dojo – communication, rewards, **This is my preferred method of contact. I check this all day long.**

  11. CRE Houses 4 Houses = 1 Family • Students are divided into 4 Houses. • Points are earned through Dojo points, showing the 3 Ps. • The House with the most points each quarter (9 weeks) will earn a House Party. • Paratus-RedSuperbia-Blue Urbanum-Black Verus-Green

Field Trips We will have three. • Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe Play at Imperial Theater September 26th • McDuffie Educational Center in February • Georgia Aquarium tentatively May 8th *All parents are encouraged to attend the aquarium trip if able.* More information will be coming. All parents attending any field trip will need to watch the volunteer training and send in a copy of driver's license.

  13. Standards Based Report Cards Students will receive a 1, 2, or 3 • 3 – meets the standard • 2 – progressing towards the standard • 1 – does not meet the standard

  14. Snack Time • Students eat during recess • Please send in a HEALTHY snack! For example: fruits, vegetables, cheese sticks, crackers, etc. • The less sugar the BETTER!

  15. Other Information • Please send a note when your child is absent. If possible, send a doctor’s note. A friendly reminder will be sent from your child’s teacher! • Make sure to send a note or call the office if there isa change in transportation. Please notify us by noon. • Monthly newsletters are found in take home folders. • Birthdaystreats (NO homemade treats) will be handed out during recess. Please refrain from anything with nuts due to widespread allergies. • Check folder and Dojo DAILY for notes.

  16. Other Information • Proof of Residency is due SEPTEMBER 6th! Please get this information in as soon as possible! • Just a reminder that breakfast and lunch are available to all students. Please make sure you add money on your child’s account. You will be notified of any balances. • Snacks are available for purchase during lunch. If you DO NOT want your child to purchase items on their account, then please send in a letter stating this.

  17. Other Information • Please use REVtrak and EZpay as much as possible. It saves time and money cannot be misplaced this way. :) • If you need to send in cash or checks please put it in your child’s red folder with a note attached letting us know what their money is for. A money ziplock can be found in your child’s folder for easy storage for the money.

  18. Scholastic Book Club Flyers will be sent home monthly. If you would like to purchase books for your child or our classroom you may: • Order & pay online (scholastic.com/bookclubs) • Send in cash or check (payable to Scholastic Book Clubs) & the order form with the item(s) marked Your purchase is a GREAT way to help stock our classroom library with books that interest your child!
