  1. PrecisionFarmingCreating A RTK Network - Overview

  2. What are RTK networks ? • What are They? • Each Base Station is Independent • Base Stations can be Surveyed To Common Coordinates • Direct hook up to the closest Base Station • Why Are they Important? • Accuracy • Repeatability • Reliability

  3. Base 2 Freq 1 Base 1 Freq 1 Base 3 Freq 1 What do we need ? • Hardware • Fixed Base station Kit • Plastic waterproof box and pre-assembled safety parts • UHF coax cabling choose depending on length • GPS coax cabling choose depending on length • UHF radio antenna choose depending on frequency range • Radio Frequencies • Minimum 3 frequencies (ideally 5) • 2 Watt radio power • Appropriate location • Site survey • Power • Safe and easy to access • High point • Clear view of the sky Interferences

  4. What do we need ? AgGPS RTK Base 450 Fixed Base Station with 450-470 Mhz radio ZTN60500-66 Contains following components:

  5. What do we need ? Plastic waterproof box and pre-assembled safety parts73321385 Power socket 2P power circuit breaker 6A Power lightning protection GPS cable lightning protection UHF cable lightning protection

  6. What do we need ? • Cable Affects Radio Performance • Use High Quality Cable to Minimize Loss • Tradeoff: Quality vs. Cost UHF Coax Cable (Base station - radio antenna) • Ecoflex 15 50 Ohm Ǿ:14,6 mm • 5 m 73321386 • 10 m 73321387 • 15 m 73321388 • 7/8 Flexline 50 Ohm Ǿ:28,0 mm • 20 m73321389 • 25 m73321390 • 30 m73321391 • 35 m73321392 • 40 m73321393 • 45 m73321394 • 50 m73321395 NB; Cables fitted with correct connectors to connect to the antenna / base station

  7. What do we need ? GPS Coax Cable (Base station - GPS antenna) • CFD400 50 Ohm Ǿ:10,3 mm • 20 m 73321396 • 30 m 73321397 • 40 m 73321398 • 50 m 73321399 NB; Cables fitted with correct connectors to connect to the antenna / base station

  8. What do we need ? UHF radio antenna73321400

  9. What do we need ?

  10. Steps to install Area Survey • Distance Between Stations Based on Radio Coverage • RTK Error Increases at 2mm/km • At 20km => 20mm + 40mm ±(10 mm + 1 ppm) RMS, ± (0.38 in +1 ppm) RMS • Radio Coverage Will Vary by Location, Antennas • 15km (9 miles) Range is Good Rule of Thumb with a 2 Watt radio (single base station only) • Place Base Stations to Optimize Coverage • Fill in Holes with Repeaters

  11. Steps to install Area Survey To estimate the coverage range of each base station, use a radius of 10 km with a 2 Watt radio. NB; Actual coverage will vary with terrain, obstructions, radio antennamodel, radio antenna height, and other factors.

  12. Steps to install Area Survey • Determine Where Coverage is Needed • Use a Local Map • Topo Map • Topo SW Package • Look for Possible Base Station Sites • High Ground • Easy Access • Existing structures • Factors That Affect Radio Performance • Terrain • Obstructions • Foliage • “Can You Hear Me Now?” • Survey Coverage Area with Radio • 95% CMR Packets is Optimal

  13. Steps to install Area Survey • GPS Coverage – Look Up • Clear View of Sky • Minimal Multipath Sources • Radio Coverage - Look Out • Above Local Obstructions • Existing Structure or Free Standing Tower • Look Down • Site Security • Power • Accessibility

  14. Steps to install Installation GPS Antenna • 1.5 - 2 m Above highest obstruction • Reduce the risk of multipath errors • Clear view of the sky • Rigid mounting • Any GPS antenna movement will translate into vehicle movement • Square : 50 x 50 x 3 mm • Round : Ø 42 x 3 mm

  15. Steps to install Installation • Antenna Height is the Single Biggest Factor in Radio Performance • Above Local Obstructions • Antenna Mounting Options • Existing Structures • Access • Interference with Other Antennas • Free Standing Towers • Radio antenna movement not important Radio Antenna

  16. Steps to install Installation

  17. Steps to install Installation

  18. Steps to install - Survey Base station Survey why? Make sure the positions will not change inside the Network Base 2 Without Position Survey With Position Survey Base 1 Base 3

  19. Steps to install - Survey Step 1 : Obtain a pass code for data logging capability Step 2 : Update the receiver for data logging capability Step 3 : Configure the base station Step 4 : Run the data logging for 24 hours Step 5 : Extract the data from the receiver Step 6 : Install desktop software to convert logged data to RINEX format Step 7 : Start the post processing procedure Step 8 : Update and save the receiver’s location Step 9 : Start the base station within the network

  20. PrecisionFarmingCreating A RTK Network - Security

  21. RTK encryption • New System currently in Alpha test • Firmware update Ag450 base stations • Will allow base operator to create secure code • Expire date to be set by base operator • Firmware update for GPS on tractors to de-encrypt • All current RTK receivers included • Up to 5 codes possible on each receiver • Expiry dates allow dealer to manage customer accounts • Pass code entry • Ag remote directly to GPS receiver (EST) • Or via display. Update required.

  22. RTK encryption • RTK Security Page on FM-1000
